Ok, now the next question... With a 8GB DAP (iAudio 7), how many full CD's can be stored via FLAC?

depends on the amount of tracks and their length. my average is about 15 cds, each averaging 13-14 tracks, 4:00 in my 10GB gigabeat

apples lossless is much bigger in alot of cases, should be able to fit somewhere between 10-15 good quality cds on the iaudio7. keep in mind the 16 gb version should be available shortly which could always lead to upgradeitis teehee.

Yep, I found that averaging out my Flac collection (ex HDD) and my Apple Lossless collection (iMac) are roughly the same size.

Both have the exact same music:

FLAC: 100.47gb (mostly 1.13/1.14)
ALAC: 101.12gb

I did a test with a few albums a while ago and came to about the same conclusion. flac level 5 was barely smaller than alac on 2 of the 3 albums. on the third, alac was smaller.

Figure 3 CDs per GB on average (which is empirically true for me, and makes logical sense: 680MB on a CD, compressed around half, is like 340MB), so 24 CDs or thereabouts.

So, with getting 20 full albums on the Iaudio 7, I am wondering how you have your files.

I ask, as today, mine is full (37 mb left) with only 14 albums.

Does using sub-folders affect storage, for example.

I have removed all other, non-music files, BTW.
