For a very minimal setup, I'll use a simple Apple USB C connected to the smartphone and UAPP.

Etymotic ER4XR for 320 €
Sennheiser IE 300 for 220 €

Of the ER4XRs I am a bit scared by the very deep insertion, while IE 300 are described by the owners as among the most comfortable IEMs ever.

Hifiman Ananda are overall my favorite of the headphones I've had. But I love the Sennheiser HD 600 more for vocals.

Sounds to me like you answered your own question. Yes, the Etys are deep insertion. You'll probably get the best overall sound experience with the Etys, but not with a smartphone anyway. The Ety performance would be wasted on a smartphone, IMHO. Convenience/comfort is most important to you and the Senns would be the better choice.

Depends how much you like bass, too. I have ER3XR, essentially the same tuning, and the IE300. The IE300 have a considerably bigger bass boost than the Etys.

IE300 have a more 3D soundstage; the Etys are clear but more 2D. I have no comfort problems with the Etys with foam tips; hate the triple flange.

I find myself having to EQ down the IE300 bass. But given the price difference and the worries about comfort, IE300 are probably your better choice.

One more thing: the IE300 cable is proprietary and it is super microphonic, lots of noise if you move unless you clip it and keep it from rubbing anything. There are a few replacement cables but they are $$$. The Ety cable is also somewhat microphonic, though not like the IE300. If you are going to be moving around, exercising, etc. you might want to think about other choices.

Thank you very much!

I am also considering a third choice now, 7hz Timeless.

The biggest doubt actually between IE300 and Timeless at the moment.

At Etymotic I am a little too afraid that deep insertion will cause me discomfort - and I am not at all convinced that I want to spend € 100 more on it.

I use 7hz Timeless with hipdac. Though is very easy to drive, the bass boost is very addictive. It's weak point is soundstage.
