I am currently in the market for a small DAP. I narrowed it down to the two choices above. They both have been rated similarly on forums and sites. So which one should I get if I want portability, ease of navigation/operation, customer support, and sound quality?

I cant get both for around 120-130 each, so I hope to get some more info and not make a mistake.
thanks

Depends, really.
The E260's (4GB) can be had for $130 as well.

If you don't like iTunes, then go for the E260's.

Both have decent customer service (prefer the Sandisk) but the Sansa is a scratch magnet.

Bitching about response times is a good way to encourage others to take the time to respond.

Anyway, do you play to use your amp with it?

I've heard the 1G Nano's were better in the sound department, so you may want to take those into consideration, lower price, better sound. I prefer the looks of the 1G's, myself.

I have heard the opposite.

Anyway my vote goes for the Nano BUT it sounds best with a lineout and amp combo.

What headphones/earphones will you be using? If you go ampless I should mention that e500s straight out of the headphone jack make the Nano sound surprisingly good. Must be the triple driver separation.

sorry for the frustration guys, I found a good deal on both the 2g nano and the e250, but now both are gone.

Anyways, I plan on going ampless with either the e3c or the ksc75 when outside, then using the pa2v2 when inside with just the headphone jack. So overall a pretty cheap setup, but it will suffice.
I will also considered the Zen V+, but to me it didn't look good

I really don't like the E3's with my 2nd generation iPod Nano ... maybe they'd be better with a player that had more customizable EQ. But perhaps that's not what you're asking about ... how's the EQ on the Sandisk?

Do you download any songs, or do you just rip from CD's? As nsjong alluded to, player compatibility with a download service may be a factor for you. I just rip from CD's, and in the category that you're considering, I got a 2nd generation Nano. I did think that the Sandisk looked and felt better than I expected when I checked it out in a B&M store. The frontal shots online aren't as flattering as they could be.

And don't get frustrated chasing sales -- between retailer post-holiday panic and your Head-Fi connections, you'll find another good deal.

I just bought the Sansa 240 (1G) at Circuit City today. It was on sale for 69 bucks and I couldn't resist. I was looking for something to pair with my ety 6i's for the gym. I'm pleased with how easy it is to load--just drag and drop. the screen is bright and nice, not sure about battery life cuz I just got it--but it's rechargeable. Drawback: I'm unimpressed by the sound. The soundstage is compressed and the highs are sibilant. But let us remember that this is a rig for the gym and I haven't even hooked my ety's up yet. I gave my first listen at 320 kb compression to my AT W1000's, which is silly. I like the size, ease of use, and for the gym they should be fine, but don't look for high fidelity with a lossy, unamped mp3 player. Also, I like the voice recorder option, though I haven't tried it I could definately use it for projects I have coming up. I hope this was helpful.
