I'm relatively new to all of this but am getting an idea of what I like. I have a number of mid-fi headphones and have found I continue to come back to my HD598 and Meze 99 Noir.

I find the meze fun but more refined than many say. There is instrument separation in the mids and highs. It's pleasing but it does still sound like a sheet of cotton is between the instruments. Still i am able to mostly separate them but know there's a lot of room for swiping that cotton away. So detail retrieval is not all that great. But ok. I actually like the bass and in non bass heavy songs it is actually relatively tamed, for lack of a better word. For edm I think they're really good and the bass is above average quality but remains boomy and less refined than I know it can be. It does bleed into the mids s bit which I don't like. However, overall I really like the headphone for almost everything I listen to. I've only had the headphone for 3 months but feel I know it well

The HD598 I've had for almost a year and love them. They're is a good sense of space which is refreshing and very nice to listen to. The space can seem to much at times making the music seem a little in the distance. Like I'm missing elements of the music. That being said I do feel there is a sense of detail portrayed which I like. The mids and highs are a bit recessed but still present and fulfilling. The bass is sufficient in quantity and not all that bad in quality. Overall a nice open airy feeling with really nice overall sound, in general I probably go to these a bit more often than the maze. But I use both a lot.

Now, what exists that could combine these two headphones into one while enhancing the good characteristics of each. No crazy price tags say 800 to900

If really appreciate any and all suggestions. Or any help in general. Thanks

Are you thinking a closed or open back? And are you opposed to EQ? And are you open to buying used?

Either really. Depending on a closed back throwing a relatively large sound stage and creating a sense of space. I'll probably always prefer the openness sense of space and realness of an open back. But again a closed with space and stage and some bass thump would be enticing.

I use sound stage lightly here because at this point in my life the only real, true sound stage and true imaging I've heard is on a 2 channel stereo speaker system.

I'm mostly not open EQ but will if it's very minor tweaks.

I'm open to used gear if there is a level of confidence that I'll get whatever it is in excellent working condition.

Any additional comments are welcomed.

Closed back, wide stage with bass thump is the TH900. Better mids with 610 pads, no EQ required but it helps. With stock 900 pads, the highs are harsh but a lot of people enjoy it... It's V shaped.

More neutral than the 900 is the TR-X00 Ebony. Still some bass but not as much, and also not the widest stage.
