NEW! Bose QC25 2014

That's the counterpart of being able to use it without battery. Sound is more flat, not in an audiophile way. Duller I must say. Bass drop their intensity, treble is less sparkly.
Bose probably wanted you to know that their NC are not just good at NC, but at SQ too. Maybe it's the internal amp, as you said. Or maybe I just don't know!

And you're already using it with your AudioQuest DragonFly? (I was going to suggest seeing what happens when you use a headphone amplifier.)

I don't want anybody laughing at me, right? Maybe I need to re-test the Momentum, but something in the QC25 let me think of the Momentum's sound signature. Bass is very present without overwhelming anything. Vocals (from Phil Collins to London Grammar) are well presented, as is each instrument in any given song. For now I tend to get the soundstage of, say, the Studio 2, so, almost right in your ears instead of around your head. It could be hard to get anything better with the NC making a somewhat big pressure on your eardrums. No hissing at all BTW compared to, again, Studio 2.

Oh, yeah, that's with NC on, of course!

Not even. Right from the MBA's jack. I want to wait at least 10 or 20 more hours before trying it.

I hope it won't make a major difference though, 'cause I don't want to buy a portable DAC/amp (Drangonfly's only USB).
I really want the QC25 to be my new EDC headphones, from computer to Nexus to anything else, so let's hope they don't benefit too much from being amped.

I'm fairly certain that if the sound quality / volume decreases when the noise cancelling is deactivated, using an external amp will yield improvements. My guess is that it just needs a bit more juice. Keep us posted!

Any thoughts on how the sound of the QC25 compares to the QC15?

Power may benefit from an amp, but I doubt the SQ will. I think they can't be better than they are, until your turn them on. I'll try to keep you informed though.

I really wanted to compared the 15 and 25 when at the Bose store, but the salesman said they don't carry them anymore. Liar! 'Cause they still have an in-store ad for the QC15 being 10% off. Anyway! The only way I have to compare the 2 would be to bring mine to Bestbuy or Futureshop… but I don't even know if they have the QC25 in stock/demo yet.

Two things happen when the sound cancelling is turned on: the signal is amplified, and the signal is interfered with in order for the sound cancelling to work. As far as I know, sound cancelling always decreases sound quality compared to high fidelity headphones that don't alter the signal in this way.

I suspect that once you use an amp, you will get a clearer picture of what is going on.

It would be great to get your comparative impressions of what it sounds like with the following configurations:

  1. NC on from laptop headphone jack
  2. NC off from laptop headphone jack
  3. NC on from DragonFly
  4. NC off from DragonFly

I was imprudent to assume you had the QC15 on hand; I only glanced at your profile and thought I saw it amid the other Bose models. My mistake.

I think you're wearing them wrong: the right cup is on your left ear

Well, this picture gives you a good point. I've never realized, but I assure you that the earcup you see, and the ear inside of it, are the right ones. Photo Boot seems to have mirrored the picture. Or, I'm so dumb that I should watch myself next morning, I don't want to go out with one shoe a one skate

Thanks! I may have to take my QC15 and QC20i in and compare them against the QC25. Yeah, like I really need another Bose NC headphone.

Sometimes the line is thin between what we want and what we need

Just want to mention that these QC25 are also known as Quietcomfort 25. I know you all know, but since no one ever mentioned it in the thread, Google can only find it via the "Bose QC25" search, and nothing for "Bose Quietcomfort 25".

That may bring other people searching informations about these headphones.

I like the fact that Bose keep the AAA-operating NC. I rather being able to remove the battery if I know I won't use the headphones for days, or weeks, instead of being stuck with an integrated battery that looses a little juice day after day, until you reuse your headphones and forget to recharge it prior to use. Happily enough, these will work even without power, but, as I previously said, with a far less engaging sound.

Got a chance to try them out today. Comfort, typical of bose headphones, is fantastic, and the build is a great improvement over the QC15. Theyre larger and more solidly built while still being very light. Theyre also more fashion oriented for sure.

The anc, as always from bose, is fantastic. I like it more than the QC15 as it doesnt have as much of the oppressive air pressure feeling that anc tends to give.

The sound with anc on vs off is definitely different. With the anc on, overall sound is more forward and energetic with better precision with imaging. Overall sound, however, is a bit splashy and not particularly well controlled.

Bose is still king of anc and still best choice if looking into anc headphones.

Great thoughts...looks like we're in good agreement with the QC25s. In case anyone is interested, my thoughts have been updated here:

Thanks for this especially:

With regards to the sound, well, everything seems to have been improved upon too. The bass hits a bit harder, but is tighter and better defined, the mids are more upfront and the treble is more present while offering a smoother presentation. The sound staging / imaging is also wider and deeper on the QC25s. The sound signature hasn't been changed drastically, but the improvements are noticeable across the board.

Wow, the sound quality ranking went from 13th (QC15) to 5th (QC25) place! That's even more significant than I anticipated.

Any thoughts on how they sound with NC off and with and without amplification?

As well, with the QC25s, you no longer get a second headphone cable without the iDevice/mic controller. As I never used that cable, its not an issue for me.

So it only comes with the remote cable and no normal audio cable? I ask because the normal QC15 cable sounds much better to me than the remote cable.

They are a bit on the dull side with the ANC off...actually I forgot to add that...doing that now....thanks!
