Hi to the Community,

I would like a bit of a nudge in the right direction. From what i can see this site and forum is geared towards aficionados of sound and music, and while i might not be the most knowledgeable i am cetainly enthusiastic.

I recently took a huge leap forward with my home cinema setup and would like to do the same for my personal listening as i do this a lot more.

Previously i have used that standard earphones that come with a phone, i have purchsed some cheap earphones from logitech that didn't sound or fit well and have since been using an old pair of Sony MDR-V150's, which don't sound bad at all, espcially with some effects and an IRS applied in processing. I do this using Viper4Android on Android device.

All of this may sound like blasphemy to a lot of users of this site and forum which is why i've come here. I have previously made do with what i've had lying around, or what i could afford on a budget. For a number of reasons i would like to pick up some Bluetooth Over-Ear or On-Ear headphones.

Now having looked through some of the threads here, and some of the articles, i feel that the options i have been considering will be laughed at. But here goes...... I'd like some good sounding headphones under £100 with bluetooth and so far have come up with the below list that i'm trying to compare.

Has anyone had any experience with any of the below units? If so please post your findings. I'm finding it hard to get any detailed info or reviews on a lot of these models making it hard to compare and all i have to go off is customer reviews on Amazon. Not everyone has an ear for quality, and no one has the same ears....

These are all around the £60 mark but would happily increase budget if there is a product that i've had recommended from such a knowledgable community. These are all on Amazon with 4-5 star reviews. Let me know if you would like links adding. (couldnt see a way to add links, just the addresses, which would take up a lot of space.

Bluedio R+ Bluetooth Stereo Hi-fi Headphone

FSL 360º Bluetooth Headset/Headphones

Sony DR-BTN200 Overhead Bluetooth Headphones

August EP650 Bluetooth Wireless Stereo Headphones

A fairly big list right now, i know. Can anyone provide feedback on these units good or bad so i can start to reduce the list? I'm keen on the FSL 360's, they look good, come with a carry case and I've seen a lot of people raving about the FSL Zero's. But the Frequency response on them only goes as low as 80hz, which seems to be a pretty high low. A friend has the Sony BTN200's and they sound really good.

I listen to a lot of Hip-Hop, Rap, R&B, Reggae, Soul, Garage, D&B as well as other bits and peices so looking for a good all rounder. Will also be using them to watch TV shows on the tablet.

Sorry for such a long post but thought that more info would be better than less.

Hope i've not missed anything..... :D

Ok, i understand now that Bluetooth Headphones aren't the sought after product i thought they would be. From what i've read a lot of users of Head-Fi cringe at the idea of sending audio over bluetooth. I have read some interesting articles about APT-X but there's just not enough support for it and as a realtively new codec there seem to be bugs.

I will take some time to read up on wired options, but if any body has any experience of the units above i would appreciate some feedback.

I travel on public transport a lot and wires just get in the way.

I think i'm in love with the FSL 360's........ (from a looks point of view) but the sound is what have to live with, just like the misses.

NVM....

While looking for reviews so I could compare some of these models I came across a nice little section for the Bluedio R+ and a lot of people like them.

Think I'll give them a go and use Viper4Android to tweak the sound as I do most of my listening on android devices.

Question answered.

I just bought a pair of these for my daughter after some research. Supposedly the Zoro HD is supposed to be quite good sounding Guttenberg and Tyll like them. I'm assuming this latest wireless version has the same HD drivers. I got a new set for 99 on ebay. Haven't heard them yet, though. But guys here like these Noontec (even though I've never heard of them. I'm rolling the dice)

Hi,
I might be three weeks too late but here goes....

I myself have been looking for the perfect bluetooth pair for out and about use and for movies on ipad. I have audiophile grade headphones and most of these don't even come close...exception being the Harman BT's maybe...but here is a practical quickguide anyway.

I have owned the following....

MEElectronics AirFi32 AF32 - weak sound, sweaty earpads. Very light build but the buttons are very cheap/"clicky". Folds down quite neatly. Quite loose on the head but comfortable for home use. These do feel cheap.. a bit too cheap for my liking expecially in the gloss light plastic finish. Budget option.

Philips SHB9100 - quality build and finish. The sound is ok but significantly inferior when used wirelessly compared to cabled. Particularly a loss of bass response. Cannot be folded. The pads are similar to the AF32's but are somehow more comfortable and breathable than the ME Set. Again loose on the head but will stay put as long as you are not doing anything too active. Suffers from Bluetooth hiss. A pleasant pair to own but maybe for the home.

Harman Kardon BT - amazing SQ. The best i have heard from the bunch i have used but also costing twice as much as some others - i would compare the sound signature to be similar to the Senn Amperiors without the treble harshness/sibilance. You do hear a little bit of hiss in the quietest situations. Benefits from greatest bluetooth range of the lot - i can have my phone downstairs and listen upstairs with no loss in connection. This pair really benefits from Apt-X as well and you can tell. The biggest downfall is that these suffer from microphonics big time.. touch the cups, touch the metal frame, touch the cable and you will hear rustling which ruins the experience somewhat. Sits quite firmly yet comfortably on your head so it is ok if you are walking around the house but not really for lying down in bed or going out. Cups do get a little hot after prolonged use but the seal is great. Surprisingly good SQ but flawed.

Sony DR-BTN200 - no cabled option, NFC didn't work very well (according to the manual you need to download an app which to me is pointless as you might as well just pair manually), sounded quite hollow but adequate - maybe due to poor seal as the cups are quite firm and may benefit from break-in to soften the cups. Great build as you would expect from Sony (they don't feel hefty though which in a way makes them feel slightly cheaper than expected) and buttons were solid and reliable. The sound was quite anemic/canned due to the firm pads/poor seal. I suppose what you are paying for here is brand. Some lesser known brands are doing better at the same price point. An entry level option by Sony.

IT7x - Great powerful sound. For the basshead maybe. Active noise cancellation was not that obvious in this pair and didn't work very well. This model also suffered from amplifier popping when you connect/disconnect which was a bit too loud to be comfortable. The buttons are quite cheap so when you press them the sound resonates to your ears. Passive noice reduction from seal is good and these make a good alternative to Beats... IT7x have far superior SQ to Beats too. Good first effort, Ian Taylor!

Novero Rockdale - They do not fold as neatly and the cups kinda swivel all over the place when you take them off. There is quite a bit of bluetooth hiss/noise in quiet situations and the blinking light is bright which may annoy the other half. SQ is good but nothing special, definitely not poor for a bluetooth set. The buttons on the side are again very clicky and not as well finished as the Sony's or Henson's. Bluetooth was quick and reliable. The OH also said that she could hear quite clearly what i was listening to when in bed. A nice practical pair which fits comortably - possibly my third favourite because of the price point, good SQ and the fact that they can be thrown about with no fear of damage.

Henson Audio BTH033 - These are my favourites so far. The NFC is quick and reliable. The buttons are intuitively placed and solid without being clicky. No microphonics issues here cable or no cable. And suffers from the least background hiss of the lot tested here. The SQ is adequate... not audiophile grade but the bass is punchy enough and the treble/mids are balanced to my ears. These also fold down although the hinge is quite loose and will open slightly under its own weight - they will not CLOSE under their own weight which is a more important point. Not a problem if you have it folded away in a pouch anyway. The build is light but solid and would not hesitate with throwing these in a bag on my travels. The pads are a little on the thin side to the touch but do not get painful on the ears. The range is good but not as impressive as the HK BT's. I dont think any of those tested come close to the range on the HK set. Although the HK BT set were my previous favourite, the practicality, hissless experience, SQ and all round pleasure in using these in any situation make these my no.1 so far. If these came in an actual metal finish and a tighter headband (on the head and when folded) i would happily pay double.

I can't remember every minor detail so may have missed out a few points, so please ask if interested.

p.s. Tested using ipad mini retina, iphone 4s and HTC One (Apt-X).

UPDATE: It seems as though the Henson Audio BTH033 occasionally suffers from a defective battery. The battery no longer holds a charge for more than two days on standby.regrettably, i have sent these back to the manufacturer. I may try out the 7dayshop ones which look pretty identical other than the colouring.
