well $250 for headsets is out of this world
 
Get the AD700 and use them for music also. A clip on mic works good and they are loved by gamers here. It is the top pick for gaming.
 
I like my Sony MDR-V6 for gaming, but they aren't open so the soundstage is limited. Still, I like them and I'm too cheap to grab another headphone just for gaming.

Yeah, plenty
 
but the value/comfort/soundstage/and uses with games make the AD700 extremely popular for games.
 
You always pick up Sony MDR-V6 if you want cheaper. Just a drop off of a little soundstage but about the same sound.

ok what if you had 20 grand on the line what headset would you use then AD700 or astro A40 or something else

When I was doing research for a mic for my AD700, the reviews of the zalman mic were far too mixed to be taken seriously.  I gathered the general consensus for it was that it was nice for pc gaming, but horrible for console gaming.
