I would buy the headband for my Senngrado's.

The construction is fantastic - not so much the audio quality. So far at 30 hours of burn-in.
bass and treble are well represented, but not stellar. There is a disturbing lack of mid-range resulting in subdued vocals and a substantively reduced sound-stage.

Some less expensive headphones (at this time) with a superior profile to my ears are Nakaichi BTHB06 and Photive BTH6 as well as Sennheiser HS202 originals.

Customer service appears to display some language challenges but is respectful and timely.

If these cans "open up" with burn-in, I will be sure to re-post. Xiaomi CS does not appear to be familiar with the term; they could not provide me with a recommendation.

I also own a pair, the only comment I can provide on sound quality is HIDEOUS!

the headphone just wasn't tuned properly, and in an effort to save cost, they likely ****ed up the driver by only coating it partially with beryllium instead of coating it uniformly (if you take out the ear pad, you will be able to see that).

The sound is just so muddy, I never ever heard anything with silver plated cable to sound like that, just a big pile of mush... (after 1 solid week of burn-in)

The up side is that this headphone is very well built, everything except sound is great.  The cable are great to handle, the folding mechanism is great, the size adjustment is great...  Its all great, except it sounds really bad.

Maybe I'll see if I can somehow shoehorn a pair of Fostex T50RP driver into it?

Maniac,
Consider exchanging for another pair under warrantee,, as I examined my diaphragms thoroughly and the Be coating is uniform. You will need to pay domestic shipping one way, but if your cans are as bad as you say, they are far worse than mine and certainly you should return for refund within the 30 day guarantee or have a go at a new set.

Nope, Xiaomi's diaphragm are all only coated half way, all of them are like that, the following teardown is in Chinese, but it shows you the diaphragm extracted from the headphone.  Clearly showing that it is not fully coated in Beryllium.

If you want to double check yours, just put a flashlight on the other side of the headphone and you will see light coming through the diaphragm.
