@Redcarmoose Ehm, it's right there if you scroll up, the first mention of specs in your own review. In the left corner...

Update:
Yes, you are right! Misprint!

Actually the plug size is in two places on the review, one said 2.5mm and the other said 3.5mm but it’s 3.5mm. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Thanks for pointing that out, it was a big help!

Great review! The only other observation I would’ve asked for is a comparison with planars that have been on the market for significant time. Do you have any sense at all about how these would compare with the S12 or Timeless?

I'm looking to upgrade from my S12 and Kato sets, and at the same time wondering if it’ll be another planar or a DD/BA hybrid… probably the latter, but I’ll be saving up for Xmas…

Oh yes… last comment… the price for the Tinhifi P1 Max looks to go from $169 to $189 this weekend…

Thanks for the complement!

In my review I state no experience with the 7Hz or S12. But it’s kinda like looking for a needle in a haystack to find that small tidbit of info. Lol

I would simply rewatch the videos in the Giant Panda thread? Then maybe that would help you get a grasp as to how all the planar IEMs stack-up.

This review really is only about two examples and would maybe help if someone was trying to discover to buy either the Panda or the HOOK. Still who knows, maybe it would confuse them instead. Lol

Update April 30th, 2022
Well........still using the P1 Max Giant Panda. I can't get over just how comfortable they are. Seems to be even more comfy as time passes. Also my choice of music has continuously changed, though I'm still exploring OSTs. To me anyway, OSTs are what the Panda is best at, that and Classical. Still there performance is really nice with all genres! But they excel at OSTs.....to me? Incredible transient response and pace. I would only use the graph about the bass as a reference, due to reality it's only 1/2 correct. The graph can't show the actual quality of bass, which is special. Laughably playing albums front to back! Now I am discovering Rock albums! The more dynamic the better! It’s kinda like playing Rock on a high-end home system. Zero dirt!

The Panda are closer to the Timeless in my opinion Hook X are the most addictive iem I've ever owned I think they are as close to endgame I can get with my music library. The immersion WITH them is like nothing I've ever experienced I literally became one with the music.

That’s cool you have all three. Never heard the 7Hz. Though I have been playing the Panda more. Just can’t get over how there is no off timbre or bad instrument tone. But I love both! They are maybe complementary? The Panda is more cohesive but the HOOK is definitely one with more character. IMO

Panda is 100% vocals IMO Vocals are lower on my list of priorities, still the Panda bass is mesmerizing. IMO......and that Panda holographic soundstage!

Me too! It is magic!

I can’t believe I’ve been in this hobby and walked around them? They are endgame to me too! Just the way they make tone is spellbinding IMO.

Great review and choice of tracks... Faith is one of my top albums of all time - a fan for over 30 years now! I have a Giant Panda on the way too 😁

Thank-you.
Just listened again to the Panda today. What a special sound, I never heard anything exactly like it. Though for me it was confusing at the start? It really needed the full amount of burn-in before showing me it’s true colors? I sure you will find value in it! Cheers!

Weird that somehow “Faith” stayed my favorite album by the Cure. They seemed to become different later on, like commercial almost. But that album is so involving to me. Actually it took a couple spins before I caught on with what they were doing? Actually I remember when “I caught on” and it was dramatic, like understanding some new form of music due to that sound being so different than anything else I was listening to at the time. But looking back it seems it actually was not as minimal as I thought as a youngster, that it was really a very polished and first rate recoding.

My top 3 albums by The Cure are Seventeen Seconds, Faith, and Disintegration - the latter has more pop moments, but I think they do pop very well still. In general I prefer their early more edgy and darker music.

Great review as always! The Panda had flown completely under my radar, as I hadn't even been considering planars. S12 has the harshest treble. Timeless is MMCX (and more expensive). Muse is huge and apparently rubbish. Hooke-x is more expensive and open backed won't provide enough isolation for my home listening. Now this one comes along at a good price and tuning that sounds more to my preference. If I don't buy the TA1 Max or Elixir, I'll be saving money, Right? :L3000:

The HOOK-X may be better. I mean it’s more loved by other reviewers, still the Panda is cool. The HOOK-X has zero sound bleed issues either in or out! The Elixir is so special though, and yes slightly more!

Rarely have I found people choosing Anabasis for test. it is one of the songs I use for critical listening, as well. Try Terminal 7. You might like it. Very good review, by the way. One of the most well written re. Headfi that I’ve read so far 👍

Thank-you for the complements. Anabasis has unfamiliar instruments, so difficult to judge playback character. But the whole album is heavily memorable as an individual set of sounds. In my experience it’s somehow one of the easiest albums to get good music replay? So it sounds good from $10 IEMs on up?

I am more into home audio, actually. A less-than-optimum set up home audio system usually will recreate a ‘funny’ bass response & ambience. Other tracks I use include Mascagni: Cavalleria Rusticana track #2, With These Hands by Yellowjackets (the saxophone sounds so sexy when set up properly), Lonely Weekend by Kacey Musgroves (on some her voice may sound nasal to my ears).

I think you will find many here that got their start in home audio. Where it’s a wild detour to go headphones. My last truly great home audio set-up was way back in 2010! I went down the headphone rabbit hole.
