If you are a fan of OOYH and would love to have your mind blown, you should try the Stax with the Smyth Realizer A16

If you get the chance to demo it at a Canjam.....wow...

Nice review btw!

Ya, I am quite interested in the Smyth Realizer, but sadly I live too far away from any canjams.
However, there are some things that I wish I could get an answer to. It seems like the advantages are that A16 can take a personalized HRTF in order to make things sound as natural as possible, but say if you are Darin Fong himself with your HRTF already in the OOYH, what benefits would the A16s give?
Also for this HRTF test with the A16, it seems you need to have speakers available and that the goal seems to be to imitate these speakers. So does this mean that the resulting sound will depend on the quality of your speakers and that it will never sound better than your speaker system?
...additionally, $1700 is pretty darn steep. Sigh.

I was lucky enough to have a session during CanJam Singapore. And my mind was definitely blown. It doesn't imitate the sound of the speakers so much as it imitates how the sound waves are distorted by your ears (structure, shape, size etc) on their way into your ear canal.

after the configuration is done and you get to watch and test various surround videos and audios, you could hear the audio in your headphones (speakers are muted), move your head and the audio will shift transparently as if you were hearing them on speakers.

Then you could lower the headphones (off your head) and the sensor mounted on top the headphones will switch the audio output to the speakers (and mute the headphones) I swear.... its like magic. there was no difference......

Yah the price is a bit.. out there.

I am willing to bet, the Stax 3100 will be so good that it melts my face on this system.
