I personally love this headphone, and may even defend it if challenged? Lol
Such a sound experience is truly special in replay................I should probably review it? Plus it is incredibly comfortable, where the MDR-Z1R is too big to lay back on a pillow. I'm not sure there will ever be again such a gift from Sony...........an original, both in sound signature and build. Just look at it! Jun 22, 2020 at 11:33 PMPost #8,933 of 9,168

I totally agree almost forgotten, yet that’s only because the machine has to keep making new products. I found mine as the very last new one as an open box, and didn’t pay full price. But I’ll never sell it. No haven’t heard the Z7 MK2, and I’m not so sure I want to? At times I don’t even plug the Z7 in I just study it?
Hi. This an excellent observational write-up. I really enjoyed what you had to say and coming from a person who has owned this headphone for nearly 8-years now I still find it unique enough to keep and the Z7 is a terrific headphone to pair with portable equipment.
Also. I know many have tried to mod this headphone with say 3M tape to dampen the resonance inside the cup to fix the treble wonkiness. However, instead of opening the headphone up and for modification, I feel one can simply apply “Crossfeed” to this headphone. I’ve had some great success doing this pairing it with my AK KANN MAX. Crossfeed is really good with the Z7. Yes. It may take away some of the soundstage width, but the highs are less edgy in the treble and the bass is more refined and impactful. Give Crossfeed a try. It does do wonders for this headphone.
Another thing I enjoy. Portable vacuum tube amps. The Z7 is excellent on a tube amp that accentuates the midrange a bit. As we both know, the Z7 can use a bit of a kick in the pants in the midrange with some music.
Anyway. Great write-up for an otherwise, very uniquely tuned headphone.
