Hello,
Have you tried any games with it? Console or pc, anything with a Dolby Digital logo (most console games have it)? And also for movies, do you get that surround feeling you get with a similarly priced 5.1 surround set? Or maybe you could compare it with a dolby headphone set (if your receiver supports it on the headphone out)?
And one more thing, about the auto off function, i hope you can wear them on when lying on the bed with your head on the pillow, right? Not resting on them, but if they have any tilting sensor, that would be bad...
Thanks,
Dan.

Hey Dan,
GAMING
I tried it with MW3 (dolby digital) and FFXIII and XIII-2(dolby prologicII) and the positioning and surround feeling is really good. Obviously it is not a microphone headset so MW3 online would be useless. I also compared it to plugging my Senn HD595 into a turtle beach DSS dolby digital module (turns 2.0 headphones into positional dolbydigital/prologicIIz) through PS3 optical->turtle beach DSS->HD595 and found the positioning to be very similar. Of course the soft velour earcups of the Sennheisers win hands down and the size of the earcups. Going straight through my receiver to the Senn HD595 on dolby PrologicIIz settings (7.1 processing I believe?) resulted in almost identical sound separation between the Sonys and the Sennheisers, however the soundstage differences in the Senns was very slightly "wider" as you might expect.

MOVIES
Watched Starwars and HP7 for example on Blu-Ray and the positioning is very clear both in dolby digital and DTS HD MA mode. Things sound like they are beside you or around you. Of course I have yet to find a set of headphones that make something properly sound like they are behind you (only when compared to a full speaker 7.1 home theatre system). A light also turns on on the bottom of the box to indicate which decoding is being used.

Hey guys. Does anyone know about the modulation for these headphones (I can't figure out the japanese manual haha). according to the Sennheiser RS220 manual, the RS220 modulation is 16-bit at 48kHz so no matter what source you use you will be limited to 48kHz and everything you listen to will be transmitted in 16/48. It would be nice if the Sonys have modulation at 24/96 or 24/192+? Any thoughts?

The answer to my question above is now posted in the main review above under modulation. Yes it is a 24/192 headset which is why in my opinion these are awesome. Here is someone else's impressions including cons in case it helps:
Sony MDR-DS7500 wireless 7.1 headphone ReviewJanuary 29, 2012
I have bought this headphone from ebay when it was first released in Japan last November if I remember correctly. There are some good and bad to this product. I would say they balance themselves out. This item is ok to buy considering the price has dropped significantly.
OK, The goods:
Battery will last about 18 hours battery life after approx. 3 hours fully recharge; or charge half an hour to use it for 3 hoursVolume for the dialogue and bass are adjustable on the headphone, dialogue actually sounds better than my centre speaker (I am using paradigm mileniaone 5.1)Additional plug converters are included in the package (original is parallel, the additional ones are australian)It decodes most audio format, duh? if not who is going to buy it?? but not for vc-1 i thinkThe material for the earpad is made from leather, it is quite comfortable wearing it.Hdmi output, 3 Hdmi inputs as well as optical input/output are quite useful (I use it for xbox, media player, bluray/dvd player)The bass or deep bass effect is simulated quite well.It supports sending signal to up to 4 headphones (from the specs I remembered). I suppose that is a good thing however I haven’t got any additional one to test with. Here comes the not-so good design:
You can NOT use while rechargingThe receiver looks cheap since it is made out of plastic and feels light on your handNote that the matrix setting (Dolby ProLogicIIz, Dolby ProLogicIIx, Dolby Neo 6) is only available in the receiver, not in the headphone. And the difference among the effects is not really noticable.Headphone will only turn on when you put it on top of your head, literally. There is NO other wearing positions. Only way is to look like a micky mouse to turn it on. Kinda mess up the hair.It is more expensive than other similar headphones. And thought it says 7.1 virtual surround sound or 3d VRT, you won’t notice any 3d or surround left or right effect. No battery low indicator (should be in the receiver so user can see, macbook pro users should be familiar with this idea).

I loved your review. I'd like to know more about the signal though, does it suffer from any interferences? I used to use the Dir2000 by pioneer and loved the IR signal, not sure how this will fare though. Thanks.

Hey guys I think I saw these for $450 on a few sites. Glad to see they have gone down by 100-150 in price.

Hi Neil, thanks. I have now had these for about 3 months and have used them a lot along with short doses of my buddy's RS220s. The signal is absolutely perfect even when I am downstairs and for reference I have 2.4ghz phones in the house, Wireless N internet, and my rear speakers downstairs on my receiver have a wireless transmitter which operates at 2.4 I believe. I tested the signal in detail about two weeks ago when I played a blu-ray on dts hd-ma and went from upstairs where I was watching the movie downstairs to my basement and the signal was really strong. I was specifically looking for the micro-drops or drops that people on this forum were talking about with the rs220s. I then went to my front yard for a sec and it was still good. I think that was 30-50 feet distance at some points through drywall and wood framing in my house and no micro-drops, no drops at all. This has been a real awesome experience so far with this headset. I still find that I lean towards my Senn HD595 for the absolute best comfort in a wired solution and the HD600 650 700 800 obviously should be similar/better but for wireless I found the Sony's to be so much better than my buddy's RS220s. I may be biased since I think I like them better because they support hdmi and lossless transmission (note there may be some interpretation differences between losslesss input vs dsss output to the headset and I contacted Sony to get an answer if it actually transmits or downgrades to 16/48 when it transmits). If the Senns supported all the features and signal distance/strength of the sony and multiple headsets options of the Sony then I would likely have gone with the Senns due to the comfort and wider earcups and soundstage similar to my HD595.

Thank you for that epic response, that's exactly what I was hoping for.
I use Senn HD558 on my computer and I complete agree the velour feels amazing, I always forget I have headphones on. Do the DS7500 get warm/hot or simply irritating to the ears at any point after a couple of hours?

Thx again for your detailed review.
Do you know if the earpads can be removed? Or, more important, if the battery can be replaced, if they go bad after an year or so?
Panasonic also has some new wireless surround headphones, RP-WF7, but i can't find any review of them.

Hey Neil. I find that they are not irritating to the ears at all and they still fit completely around my ears, however they are just a bit smaller in circumference than the HD598/595/600/650, etc earcups. Also, the speaker part does not touch my ears which makes it really comfortable while great headsets like the Hifiman HE500s did touch the cartilage on my ears which led to fatigue really quickly.

Hi Dead Ghost. I think the earpads can be removed, however I cannot make out anything in the manual showing how to do this? There is no instructions for replacing the battery unfortunately. Hey guys please note that I double-checked and my buddy's RS220s do have replaceable AAA batteries which could be very convenient down the road.

Please would you help me to understand how these headphones connect via HDMI cable?
I understand that it has three HDMI inputs through which we can connect three sources (eg. In my case a PS3, an Xbox360 or a blue ray player ...), then with the HDMI output to connect it to a TV 'HDMI input for video? In practice, if I understand correctly, by the ARC are you doing to get the audio from the sources and then acts as a "pass" for the video signal to HDMI TV? Right?Or if I'm wrong as there would come the video signal to TV? In any case, the optical cable is used? What exactly is the signal "return ARC" and what is it?It 's only compatible with Bravia TV?How to set the "HDMI CTRL" (Mode 1 and 2) by the ARC according to the different settings? And 'in the complicated connections?Who has had the opportunity to compare them with the Sennheiser RS 220?Please help me! Thank you.

Nice review
I live in Australia and I really want to buy these. I tried to buy them from Amazon Japan (price seemed really good) but it says it cannot be sent to my destination. I even tried other sellers but it still wont work.
And it's too expensive on other sites. :frowning2:
Got any idea how I can get these headphones? Thanks
