Nice review! I have become quite the Sony 2010-2013 fanboy. I gotta give this new over ear stuff some head time cuz the Sony crushed it in the IEM sector. xb90ex,ex800st,ex1000 are all fantastic and go head to head with almost anything in any price range.
Ask Nao to revisit the 16mm single DD IEM design. Special stuff right there!
@Currawong Off topic re the headphones, but I've had same experience with cellos in Amber Rubarth's 17th Ward as a track started and I looked right over my left shoulder for the cello. I do love that. In another post you mentioned enjoying Alexis Cole binaural recording. Was this "A Kiss in the Dark" or "Dazzling Blue". Any others of the binaural set that develop that same spaciousness and clarity of vocal or acoustic instruments in your opinion?
Bluetooth sounds much better than most people around head-fi seem to think. I'll bet listening blind the majority couldn't pick out wired from BT when listening to quality BT signatures.
@McClelland I think it's mainly the binuaral, but the clarity of the recording certainly helps a lot.
@Sonic Defender It wasn't really until APT-X came on the scene that good quality BT transmission was possible. I think it tends to appeal more towards a regular consumer for the convenience. Enthusiasts are usually willing to put up with some inconvenience (wires and multiple boxes) to get best results.
Yep, convenience for sure is important, but I really don't think much of a step down, if at all, happens if the DAC and amp in the headphone is competent. I went from a PM3 driven balanced by a DP-X1 to the B&O H7 and I have no regrets. I am now quite curious to hear this headphone, thanks for the review.
The noise cancelling is very strange in that with it on I can hear your voice more clearly than with it off. I've tried a few noise cancelling headphones and find they all do the same thing. Would much prefer a set of proper passive noise suppression headphones.
On a separate note, if these are being used with an iPhone, I assume the fancy tech doesn't work. In that case, what is the sound quality like then?
@cho8 Yup, you can hear my voice more clearly because the noise cancelling removes the background music, which consists of mostly low frequency notes. On a plane it is the same -- the low rumble of the engines disappears, but some mid- and high-frequency sound still comes through. I might add a note into the video that you need to watch that part with headphones on, as you wont hear the low frequency sounds dropping out otherwise.

Any idea how the wireless h.ear compares with the wired one, the MDR-100AAP? That one has no bluetooth nor noise-cancelling tech, from what I see...
