I'm digging the steampunk look. If the 1266, Empyrean/Elite and this (maybe Raal as well) combined in terms of the looks (Empyrean comfort levels) with a hint of Gothic, I'd be jumping on them before sound even came in the picture. Looks are very important to me along with comfort and sound. This is where Elite fails instantly for me. But so far very on board with Snorry looks-wise. Esp that heavy-duty look and weight.
Nice write up and interesting headphones. They definitely look 'Russian', a bit like those massive Kennerton headphones.
Sharing the price plus some more comparisons would have been welcomed.
These are worth the price of admission. I'm not optimally driving my set but they still produce an excellent neutral, reference level sound. I'm not one for a laid-back, warm, dark headphones (think ZMF/Audeze) and to me this qualifies as my preference for what I'd call an easy listening marathon session when the Utopia may be too energetic for the mood.
Also, the build quality registers as indestructible (mine are wood). They are weapons on ears. They remind me of bulletproof headphones of the old days like the Grado HP2.
Utopia: 490g; LCD4: 708g; Susvara: 450g; LCD2: 600g; ZMF Verité: 450-550g; D8000: 523g, Empyrean: 430g.
500g is actually not bad for a flagship. Depending on the earpads and headband it can be comfortable enough.
I draw the line at around 400-450 grams...which is just about a pound. anything heavier is imply not comfortable for more than a song or two...does not cut in my book. And I wear headphones every day including a daily 3 mile dog walk with my Air Pod Max....wireless feels so dang good I miss that feature when wearing my non portable Cans!
