Thanks for your comprehensive review.

The captions for Figure 1 and Figure 2 need to be correctly placed. Caption “Figure. 1 – Outer Ear (Pinna)” is actually placed under Neumann KU 100 Dummy Head Binaural Stereo Microphone and caption “Figure. 2 - Neumann KU 100 Dummy Head Binaural Stereo Microphone” is placed under Outer Ear (Pinna).

In most parts a good review, thank you.

But: Are you not aware that there actually DOES exist an (iOS) App for the control of many aspects of the A16?

At the moment only for Apple ipad ( iphone is too small I think) though.

No, I wasn't aware of the app. That's great news, thanks for the info. Apparently, I missed the announcement on their web site. Please provide a link. Thanks.

That's the problem with the Smyths, they don't announce anything, you have to regularly check for new FW updates to see what's new on the download page: https://smyth-research.com/downloads/
The app is mentioned in FW update manual 1.90 p. 11 and mainly in the IP command server manual on top of the page.
At the moment there is only an App for Apple and I think only for ipad, iphone Display may be too small.
They use an app called Centro Control from british smart home company Demopad and created a GUI for the Realiser, which you can install to the app (first get the app from the app store) by scanning the QR code in the document.

If you got an Ipad I would be happy if you test this app also and review it here!

I have only Android devices so never saw the app so far. They have also an Android app but it isn't freely, available in the google store. Stephen is testing it but I don't know if and how it works.

I think about buying a used Ipad.

With the Demopad Designer Software one can alter the GUI Smyth has created or program a new one.

This is exciting news. I'm still on FW 1.81. With everything I need working, I haven't felt the need to upgrade.

I'm very conservative when it comes to FW updates. Generally, I won't update unless the update corrects an issue I'm currently experiencing, or the update includes a "must have", rather than "nice to have" new feature. Even then, I won't apply the update unless I know it's 100% stable.

1.91 seems pretty safe. I might see if I can borrow an iPad from my neighbor and give 1.91 a try. Thanks again for sharing.

I wouldn't be that conservative with FW updates. You can downgrade if you want. Depends on your Hw version how far you can go back.
I had problems with 1.91 and downgraded to 1.81. Now with 1.98 I didn't have any problems so far. Stephen does some bugfixing under the hood without telling it all.
However, I had the stalling problems from the beginning, and will get the new internal SD card to test. But as long as I do not encounter problems with 1.98 with the old internal card, I can not really validate if the new card will help

Btw. the feature list at the end of your review, is this copied from the Smyth website? It's a bit out of date, for example the Illusonic upmixer is not implemented and may never be (it's stil on their list but with absolute lowest priority...)

After reaching out to James Smyth and reading up on the TCP command server support introduced with FW 1.90, it would appear that my expectations for a production A16 control app were overly optimistic. I received the following reply from James:

"At this time we don't intend to release a production standalone version, too many pressing matters regarding the A16 itself.".

James did provide a link to the prototype example source code developed by the Smyth team. I'll report back if and when I decide to experiment with the app.
