Oh I didn't know that was you on YouTube, hahahahaha. I saw that video before reading this wonderful review. I think the 940's just might be my next pair of headphones over an Ultrasone pair! So even though the 940's are lighter in bass than the PRO 900's, you can still use an EQ to improve it. Thank you for the very detailed review, this has been really helpful for me.

The SRH940's have great bass extension. They are rated for 5 Hz to 30 kHz. That's crazy extension in both ranges. It does so accurately, with detail. The bass is there. It's just not monstrous, forward, and impactful to the point of shaking your teeth the way the Pro 900 is. The Pro 900 has detail in the highs and massive low end but lacks mids. The SRH940 has the forward highs and mids but a neutral and less pronounced low end. I have both headphones because the SRH940 is great for non-electronic music, and the Pro900 is pretty much the king of electronic music before entering the highest end tier of flagship stuff.

Nice review. I'm going to need some sound-isolating, detail-intensive headphones for a job I'll have, and these are on my list.

A further reason for me to get the 940! There has been some great reviews (including this one) Shure are so good at this!
I've got the 440, and the 840 as well.

Great Job! A very thorough & accurate review of all aspects I could think of(!). My personal 940 journey is not a million miles away and I agree with your observations. I think they do a good job on 'rock' (not 'metal') too especially with detail & timbral honesty... where there is bass on the recording it is enough for me via Graham Slee Solo Ultra Linear amp. My 'basshead' cans are HD250 linear II (mainly) and DT150.

One of the best reviews on here, that's some mean photography too.

Thanks! I ended up picking a second SRH940 by the way second hand from the For Sale section. Nothing does vocals like SRH940, not even my HE-500's. SRH940's are currently my favorite for vocals and acoustic.
