I've been using 3 of these (Ireland and German made - no discernible difference to me) as a producer/sound engineer as of of 1993 and I can confirm that all your impressions are solid. For me they've been my bread and butter tools and the only headphones that accurately convey a recording. I guess that's what they were mostly used for.
Unfortunately as I write this (November 2015) the original ear pads are no longer available. I ordered HD 430 pads as I've heard they would fit but I do believe that it sounds best with the originals. If anyone here has a suggestion for replacement ear pads I'd very much like to hear about it.

Try shure earpads, they might need some work but i found they sounded good with them
I want to get one of these some day soon - It'll be interesting to see what it sounds like
