Couldn't agree more as it is the best. I got the Amperior which is perfect, super sturdy, and sounds so lively. The soundstage is top notch considering how small they are. I too hope the bass was at lower frequency like 50 - 60 Hz for monitoring needs. Having said that, it is unbeatable for portable and general purpose.

Yea do have an excellent soundstage. When i put these on for the first time I was very very suprised how good the mids and highs are when the bass is so present. There is some magic going on here, this is definitely Sennheiser's portable and general purpose flagship. I am currently using them with my rockboxed IPOD video/classic 5.5 80gb. I do agree that the stock EQ is missing some sub bass(but it does reach there!!), but I EQ'ed the 100-250hz frequency down 0.5db, and 20-44hz upped by 1.0db; Resulted in an excellently balanced headphone.  PS; stock these are warm, but are easily EQ'ed to a bright can without sacrificing quality. I do prefer the stock warm presentation though..

I agree with your assessment that they have a slightly warm signature - got slammed for saying that before once, with someone telling me they were the brightest headphones they owned! I guess it's all relative. For me, the bass response on these headphones is pronounced, and punchy.

Yea the bass is definitely the most upfront character, but can easily be balanced by EQ-ing the bass down a notch; At heart they are still a DJ headphone(punchy so you can track the bass even in a loud disco), but due to their highly revealing and detailed nature I call them more than that. I call them warm because the way the highs make their way through the signature is in a calm manner, where as a bright headphone like the DT770 or HP150 will have upfront highs which are the main attraction to be experienced. The highs on the HD25 Alu can definitely sound energetic, but the overal presentation is never bright..

Yes yes, it's all relative :p , it's all just contrast eh?

Hi guys.. .

Had a hd25 and loved it. Despite being a tiny bit flat, just using a V shaped eq made yhem sound amazing. Punchy for edm, agressive and powerfull for headbang rock and still with beautifull clear vocals. Sold my hd35 and got a amperior and i stillregret having done that. The amperior was much more bassy, not as clear on the mids and highs and the velour pads fit was weird.

Right now i have a m50x and a 80ohm dt770. I am thinking of selling my dt770 because although super comfortable and spacious i didnt fell in love with the sound.... Even with eq they are not very lively or punchy imo, i find them a bit boring.... Dont know how many call them bass monsters, the m50x is definitly bassier.....
But anyway.... I am thinking of returning to the hd25 again, i prefer a more agressive and punchy sound and therefore i want them again for that. On one hand i want to get the regular hd25 because i know what ill get, but right now the alus's only cost 7 euros more on thomann. But after my experience with the amperior im a bit affraid that ill get the same luck with the alus....

What do you guys think i should get? On the alus, s the improvement over the hd25 very noticeable? Is the signature much more warmer like on the amperior or more close to the original hd25?

Cheers....

@Pedro Oliveira Owned all 3 myself. I think the Amperiors are more aggressive, less refined sounding overall than the HD25 Alu, with more OTT bass - I concur with your impressions above. In contrast, I find the bass response with the Alu is tighter, more controlled. It's been a long time since I listened to a HD 25-1 II, so couldn't really offer a meaningful comparison there, though from memory I think I found the Alu to be more like the HD 25 than it is like the Amperior.

Anyway, couldn't you just order an Alu from Thomann and swap it for an original HD-25 if you're not happy with it? I've done that before with stuff from Thomann - they're good like that!

I agree with WraithApe's assessment. I recently auditioned the HD25-1-II's and found them less detailed and controlled but more aggressive than the Alu's. Alu's are definitely my favorite, but If one desires pure energetic attack than the 25-1-II's might fare better (Though remember, you can EQ the ALu's....)

To me the amperior ruined the hd25 sound.... To me it sounded more congested, with the bass coming close to uncontrolled and almost muddying things a bit. Vocals were definitly less clear and energetic guitars sounded more laidback....
But if the alus are closer to the hd25 that seems good....
If i do order and ask for a replacement later on thomann they dont charge me for asking for a replacement, for openning the alus and also i have to pay the shipment back to them no?
