Hello, I hope you can help me on this, I have the same headphones (eh250) now (for about 6 years), and I tried to buy another with same or better quality.
I was listening sennheiser 449 for some minutes today, changing them on the same source, I heard the 449 had worse sound quality.
What should I hear if I hear a better headphone?

Hi Louis - it very much depends on what you want to spend and what sort of sound signature you are looking for. The eh250 are on ear - do you still want on-ear or over ear? Do they need to be portable? Open or closed? What did you like about the eh250? What didn't you like about them? What will you be driving them from (your source)? What main genres do you listen to? What main aspects of a headphone's sonic signature do you prefer ... eg warm and bassy, detailed, airy and light .... ? Finally - what is your budget? Without some more info it is impossible to give you any pointers.
I haven't heard the HD449.

Hi Brooko, Thank you for your detailed answer (and the many questions)! You're right, I haven't told you anything about my details of music listening. I thought there is a clear way to get a better sounding headphone (maybe in all attributes), but now I see it's a complicated question. The best I like in eh250 is the clear highs (or I think they are clear), the ok mids and the well sounding bass (I mean not very detailed, but better than a lot of boomy trash, and sounds clear)I hear that eh250 is a little bass heavy, but in 80% I listen to electronic music (dance, trance, pop, some dnb, etc), I'm mostly pleased with that bass level, but sometimes I feel that it's more than needed. The other 20% of my listening consist of some gaming, sometimes movies and other type of music like acoustic, jazz, etc. I think I like the clear, detailed (warm?) sounding, but in a way that old mp3s does not sound awful. I heard some AKG-s 512, 514, 520, but they were "weak" in passing the music and the highs were to much for me. I mean weak that they are not pressing so strongly the music into the ear, I think that they can give a better sound stage in exchange. I've heard an AKG 701 for a moment (2 minutes), but as I remember it was sounding very ok. Detailed balanced, relaxing sound. Maybe that is what I am seeking but for a friendly price :)My source is an X-fi sound card's I/O panel and few times a Yamaha RX-V496RDS receiver. I hear when I switch off the crystaliser, the eq, and other thingies of it, I like it best if nothing touches the sound. They are good for gaming.About the money, I bougth this eh250 at about 17k HUF (~ 72$) 6-7years ago and the 449's current price was at about 25k HUF (~ 100$). That was my first limit for getting a better one, but after listening it and discovering that a 449 is worse, I understand that I have to raise the limit, or pick some used one from better series. Compared to the 449 I found these drawbacks :- bass was nearly the same, a very little bit weaker, but maybe enough for eliminating the feeling that it is not more than needed in some cases- I haven't recognized any differences in mids (didn't focus on it)- highs were far worse, weak, dizzy, not so detailed, and something like distortion was in sound (on the same volume where the eh250 was totally clear)Maybe it is a problem that I have tried a new one (with 2 times listening from the owner), and burn-in would change a lot in its sound, but how I remember, for the eh250 I heard the overall sound quality in 5 seconds. Or maybe the 449 was a fake one :)Sorry for long answer, but I couldn't express myself shorter.

Hi Louis
If you want a circumaural closed can - and can spend a little more than what you were intending - I still think the best bang for buck has to be the Shure SRH840. It's so good I repurchased it. It has a mid-bass hump - not as boomy as the Senn - but still enough to satisfy you. Far more definition in the mid-range and better extension in the highs. There are a couple in the classifieds right now going for good prices.
