Was it bright with the AKG k701s for metal like Opeth?

Have not tried it with the K701s yet, though that remains on the agenda; I only have them available in stock single-ended termination.

Can I ask what is the position of the volume knob when using HE6 and under which gain setting?

@chengka7 - most of the time with the HE-6 I'm between 12 and 3 on the dial, the sweet spot for me is probably from 1-2. Low gain exclusively; haven't ever felt the med to head into medium or high.

I'd agree with your comment on output selection - is the one thing that annoys me with considering this amp..

However I'd go a stage further in your simplification and just add the two extra LEDs.. that way, no extra buttons needed, just an easy way to see which mode it is in (H, S, H+S).

That's a good point. Putting two LEDs on the left side of the input control would probably be intuitive enough with the current button...
