Thanks Stillhart! Very well written and a fun read.
There is very little I would disagree with you on in your take on our QP1R DAP. It is not 100% perfect in every way shape and form, but then, what is? However, as you have pointed out, you get a whole lot of bang for the buck, and many of the the negatives that you have pointed out we are well aware of and are constantly improving the player where we can with fw updates as well as physical improvements, such as the skin for the wheel, which is a HUGE improvement and eliminates the "slippery" factor. Best part, is the skins are absolutely free of charge to anyone that owns a player!
We also offer a 4' premium USB cable that fits the player perfectly, is inexpensive, and like the QP1R, is an absolute bargain considering the price vs. quality! So there!!
At any rate, thanks again for a very insightful, objective and honest review of the QP1R.
So, how does it sound? Not to be ungrateful of your splendid review but one glaring omission seems to be the lack of sound description no matter how subjective it may be. I would still appreciate a few words about sound quality, as you perceive it. Thanks for all your efforts to post this review.
I second the question from darren, but also the same question for the wheel skin. I love the sound quality of the qp1r, but really need some exta fittingusb cables and (most important) the wheel skin.
As much I agree on sound and buit quality I believe your review is to lenient with the UI. The UI is simply a shame and has nothing to do with "simplicity"or "focussing on sound". This is a 900 Dollar device and a proper UI would not have made it much more expensive as the UI is stock firmware which is also used by FiiO, Shanling and Cayin. Only that these companies have managed to come up with considerable improvements in the meantime. Most issues of this DAP could be fixed with updates. But when are they coming?
No doubt the QP1R is sonically great, I too found the pairing with HD800 in high gain mode is great for a DAP. I would also recommend checking out the L5Pro, which offers same sonic performance, a better UI, for less money.
Nice review. Although I have difference of opinion about highly sensitive IEMs. I have been using the QP1R for 6 months now and I have used it with Dunu DN 2000, Final Audio Pandora Hope VI and AKG K3003i in low and high gain levels without any background hiss, on the other hand I find the Dunu DN 2000, FAD HVI emitting background hiss from iBasso DX50 at low gain levels.
