Penmarker - I have not tried that, and I'm a little hesitant to do so. My understanding is that ICEpower amps have a (necessary) output filter which is designed for loads ranging from 3 ohms to 8 ohms or slightly higher. The 50 ohm load of the HE-6 would theoretically result in high-frequency ringing, which is of course not desirable.
Ha! Yeah, I usually do most listening at night but take my pics during the day when lighting is better. Sometimes you'll spot things like that (good eye).
Holy smokes this thing pairs well with the HD 800. They had that setup at the Nashville meet right across from Mr. Speakers table with 3 TOTL amp setups and a few Ethers, and this combination sounded better than all of the Ether setups. It really makes the HD 800s sing!
Excellent review, which I've read a number of times over the years because I have coveted this AIO unit. I finally had the opportunity to audition one at home and compare it to my Burson Conductor V2+. The sleek CMA 800i makes the brawny CV2+ look somewhat unprepossessing. The CMA 800i's build quality is superb, although the finish appears to be prone to marking.
As for the sound, while the differences in presentations between both units were subtle to my ears, there was nothing about how the CMA 800i paired with my headphones that I preferred to the CV2+. And while I lurved the feel of the CMA 800i's potentiometer, it had too much gain, thereby restricting the useable range of the volume control with my dynamic headphones. It has been returned to the dealer.
