Pros: 1. The material used is top notch and feels very premium
2. There is no much cable noise when wearing it, although when walking some noise does come across
3. Love the overall aesthetic of the cable and goes well with most iems, specially metal shelled iems
4. Its a modular cable and all the terminations, yes even 2.5mm is included
5. The case included is very nice
6. The cable is very malleable and soft for daily use
Cons: 1. The price could be a bit much for some, specially for cable skeptics
2. Have to be a bit careful when connecting the terminations to the cable
3. I personally didn't find any sound difference using the cable. I am really sorry to all the cable swappers out there
Introduction:-
Hey guys, today I am going to look at the NMD Audio Nascent. This only my second iem cable review the first one was the simgot LC7. The price of this cable is $80, yes its a bit out there for the non cable fanatics or on the budget end for those who love cable rolling.
I have also shared a video version of the review at YouTube any support there in form of a view, A like or A subscribe is greatly appreciated. But if you so wish to read the written version you can read this.
Before I start the review I want to say a huge thanks to NMD Audio for sending the Nascent out for review. Please do check them out below, also recently NMD Audio became a global retailer for letshuoer products too. All thoughts and opinions you are about to hear are my own.
I will be as usual following my bullet style format for better readability for those who are dyslexic and in general find it hard to read long paragraphs. I follow this guide in general from the British Dyslexia Association.
Lets get started!
Review:-
1. The packaging of the Nascent is really good. It comes in this box and the cable is included inside this metal case along with the 3 extra modular jacks.
2. The nascent as of this review is the cheapest iem cable from NMD.
3. NMD Audio is a company from honk kong who also has a base in the UK
4. They generally make premium cables, but as I said before they recently became a retailer for Letshuoer audio too.
5. The internal composition of the nascent is Copper-Silver alloy, German made OCC copper
6. While the external composition is Swiss made silver plated OCC Copper + Rhodium plated platinum stripes.
7. They are using some of the most premium materials for the wire composition here.
8. The structure of the cable is a Litz Type 6 (Coaxial structure)
9. There are 2 wire strands for the nascent and each strand has 120 cores which in total comes upto 240 cores
10. The length of the cable is 1.2m and this has a modular termination with 3.5, 4.4 and 2.5 included inside the box
11. I have the 2-pin version in for review, but you can also buy them in mmcx
12. The cable is of very high quality and it you can feel it when you use it.
13. Although the cable for my liking is a bit thick, it is very malleable
14. When I coil the cable and place it somewhere it doesn’t uncoil and make a mess, it just stays over there. Which is very nice
15. The connectors have this carbon fibre finish which I like very much
16. Here a small critique as when I am trying to connect them to the cable the notch is hard to find and you could bend the pins, so be very careful when aligning them.
17. The noise from the cable when wearing it and walking around is very low, it surprisingly doesn’t transmit that to my ear.
18. The chin cinch is mighty fine as the tolerance is done very well. I know this might seem very bland, but most cable don’t do it right and they are either too tight or too lose to stay.
19. The case included too is quite good and it contains the cable and the iem without any issue, although I cannot include any dongle dac inside it.
20. Now coming to the sound
21. Well this is the most controversial part of this review. Because while many can discern differences between cable swap I never have been able to find that. While I haven't tested too many cables but the few I have tested, cable swapping never really changed the sound for me
22. NMD Audio describes the sound for the Nascent as follows, they have shared it as a star rating please do have a look at it.
23. I never have heard a difference in sound with cables. For me cables are just as an accessory, for example -
24. Like some iems have very bad cable and they tangle up very easily or they are two thin and low quality I would like to change the cable them.
25. OR If I want to colour match the cable then it would be a nice option to change the cable for the looks.
26. I know many will hate the fact that I cannot find any differences between cable, but I am sorry.
27. Unless the cable has very high impedance which changes the sound profile I have never really heard much difference.
28. I think so the Nascent is a fantastic cable in terms of looks and daily usability. Sadly I haven't heard any differences when it comes to sound.
29. Again sorry to those who believe that changing cable changes the sound.
30. For me $50-100 is the mac I would spend for a custom cable and nascent falls under that category
31. Its beautiful and does everything I need, albeit a bit thick for my personal taste.
32. So that is my review of the NMD Audio Nascent, If you have any question please do comment below. I hope you have a great day ahead, bye!
If you have any questions please feel free to ask me and also if you have any issues regarding this format of review please do comment I will try to mend it. Also sorry to those who are used to reading long paragraphs of review in headfi. I hope my review was upto the mark, I appreciate any feedback.
Again a big thanks to NMD Audio for making this review possible.
