When people say the ESP/95X is a great value with the right amp, that's like saying a Mustang will beat a Ferrari around a track with just a few small mods. All you have to do is put a Ford Racing crate engine in, replace the entire suspension with Ohlins, rip out the interior, and use slick tires. I don't doubt the setup sounds good but at a total cost of $1850 is this really a bargain?
I do have an ESP/95X and my view has always been that Koss should have made a decent energizer and charged $800-1000 instead ... I can't say whether that would have been more successful but at least it would be an attempt at doing something besides offering a 30+ year old headphone with zero changes. Koss has great reputation from products like the PortaPro but they never introduced any new audiophile products and missed the opportunity to cash in on the high-end headphone market that has been booming for the last 14 years.
