WOW!!! Enjoyed it VERY much! Excellent job Paul! Funny part is that I was actually reading it with interest like I haven't seen or heard this DAP before

I think between the two reviews we nailed it pretty well.  Have you taken the stickers off yet?  Looks a lot better IMO.

Very well written review Brooko, wondering how it compares to the Studio 3 Anniversary.

Nice review, hopefully LP and upgrade its GUI and implement a few more functions (like DAC), then the product really shines.

Thanks guys. @mrmoto050 - I've always regretted selling the Studio Anniversary 3.  The GUIs on the two are actually comparable when you think about it - both pretty rudimentary.  And both sound great, but where the Anny3 is bright, the LP5 is a lot more textured, rich, and full. On sonics alone, the LP5 is in a different class (up a notch) as it should be.
@JohnYang - thanks.  I'm looking forward to seeing the improvements with FW updates - especially the DAC mode. When it happens, I'll definitely come back and update the review.

Nice review! Is this DAP essentially by Shozy or Cayin? There are a lot of resemblance in design.

Thanks.  No - it's by the same designer as the Colourfly C4.

If my experience with the colourfly c4 is any indication the promised functionality via firmware upgrades will never materialize or will be seriously compromised and the manufacturer will simply abandon the product at some later date. Buyers spending this kind of money should not have to put up with this nonsense. No thanks.

Well - I'd prefer to keep in discussions ongoing with the firmware - and we're lucky that we have John who has a direct line to Mr Won.  I have to admit - if they kept the firmware where it currently is, I'd be fairly disappointed.  They have the potential here for a really good player.  The SQ and power are a potent combination together.  You'd really need to hear it before dismissing it brams.  In the meantime, I'll keep the cup half full approach - it's early days yet - and we'll see what eventuates.

Looks nice, but the cost plus craptastic UI and functionality = are they taking the piss?

I wonder why they killed the Colourfly reference. The Colourfly was a good sounding unit, although the firmware was a bit rudimentary.

@Toom - again, it concerns me that there are some "off the cuff" comments which are combative in their nature without giving the manufacturer the chance to correct any issues.  All I can say is that "time will tell" regarding FW.  I think I've been pretty accurate in my assessment of the unit - and no, I don't think they are "taking the piss".  In its current state - I think it's overpriced.  Hpwever - if they bring more functionality to the UI, fix the glaring errors, and allow the DAC to be accessed (and all of this can be done through fw updates) - then you have a viable unit - which while expensive, probably would justify it's price.  Again - I personally don't see this as a unit for mainly IEMs.  Its strnegth is with fuill sized headphones - and it does sound incredible with both my T1 and HD600. It's going to be a limited market - and if you have budget gear - it won't be on your radar.

I think keeping up discussions on the firmware is a good idea. At this level having to compromise on the interface just to get the great sound and look is not acceptable. Moreover, if the buying public ever wants things to improve we must hold companies accountable for past missteps in the same way we praise them for their successes. It is my hope that your feedback as well as comments which are perhaps not combative, but honestly reflect an opinion based on the information presented, will motivate the designer to release the unit with a proper interface and functionality rather than dangle the promise of updates that might never materialize.

For the record I really like the unique look and sound performance if the Colourfly C4 which in a way makes the interface and support issues more frustrating than if the unit performed poorly. If this is better (perhaps the designer can comment) it is very fine indeed. Assuming this is the case I also think your review is excellent and quite fair in its summary conclusion and rating. Quite honestly, given the current prices of high end DAPs, if the unit were released with performance exceeding the Colourfly and with a proper interface I would buy one in a heartbeat. If not then it would be impossible for me to justify buying.

Without reviews like this I would never hear about these interesting products so please keep up the good work!

Thanks brams. John is making Mr Wan aware of all comments - and I've highlighted the main points I think need fixing immediately (via PM). Hopefully this leads to constructive changes :)

So its currently a poor product. As for your comment about people being combative - no, I'm just shocked at how someone can charge so much for something that seems so backward.  A grand for something that doesnt even list albums or artists in alphabetic order? Do me a favour.

And you're welcome to state your opinion.  The difference of course is that I've heard the LP5, and experienced it.  You haven't.  Is it a poor product - no (IMO).  Do its current features justify its current price - again no. Do I think it has potential - if they fix its shortcomings (via fw updates) - you betcha.
