There seems to be some serious output power, here. Color me impressed.

From your review I get the impression that if the UI is improved that this will turn out to be one heck of a DAP. (If not already based on build and sound alone)  Your excellent review puts this very much in direct competition with the X7. (at least for my money) not to mention your comments on the pairing with the Dunu 2Kj makes it very attractive.

Very much a competitor for the X7.  To me it sounds a little warmer overall - the X7 is a little more neutral.  But there is not a lot in it.  The biggest difference is in ease of use (where X7 has obvious ascendancy) and driving power (X7 would need the alternate amp modules - L5 Pro has more power at present - comparatively).

Both are wonderful DAPs.

It really is a shame there are no power output specs on this device. Considering that Hisoundaudio is marketing their S6 (Studio VI, in other words) as a "the only portable player to really power high impedance headphones," it would have been nice to see if they were right in specs. Still, I trust your ears (even if you don't, lol), so we'll see.

I guess they HiSoundAudio haven't factored in the LP5 huh?  It is easily the best sounding DAP I've ever heard with full sized cans.  As good as my desktop system.

They do make claims that seem a bit out there (the only portable player...), but at least they have the specs to match. I'm surprised it's as good as your desktop rig; I could be wrong about this, but even the AK380 didn't sound as good to me as really good desktop setups I've tried. I'd love to compare the two, but I've heard there's no real way to contact L&P, they come to you.

It's also tricky when you have to bump up the volume a few notches. I'm sure you'd be able to tell if it was lacking some power, but seeing if it's driven to it's potential is something (even?) I wouldn't trust my ears for. It would be a lot better if you had the K7XX (those are notoriously power-hungry, and you can easily tell if they're lacking power - or so they say), but your results the T1 are enough proof to me that it means serious business.

The S6 is still half the cost of the LP5 though, so if it can do as good of a job with over-ear cans, that's good enough for me :)

I tested the LP5 on the K701 last weekend   My parents came down and stayed for a week.  Mum brought my old K701 with her.  I loaded the LP5 with plenty of Classical and then let her loose with Hd600, K701 and T1.  It sings with all 3.  She still prefers the AKG though.

That's so cool! :D I wish my parents understood audio, they still think I'm reviewing for them noise-cancelling headphones xD Take care.

Wonderful reviews! To my ears the L5Pro sounds a bit more natural than the X7, while the X7 has a more exciting sound. Driving power of the L5Pro is much better than the X7 with the bundled amp module. UI, the X7 is quite a lot better. Both are great DAPs
