Great!
Reading the review made me wonder, why 4.5 stars and not five?

5 out of 5 stars equates to perfection and nothing created by human hands is perfect.

To answer your question more specifically, the DX240 probably lacks a touch of refinement which some more expensive DAPs bring. A smoother, more laidback player might do better with certain genres, but then wouldn't handle rock as well as the DX240 so everything's a tradeoff.

Ratings are not strict as you probably imagine.
This is Headfi not Stereophile.
If we reserve 5 stars for perfection then we are going to award them!
Anyway thanks for the input and happy listening.

Sadly I had to return mine. There is a Bluetooth glitch which means when reconnecting to a device that the volume comes on at full blast regarding of the setting only to be corrected by touching the volume knob. This glitch appeared on the replacement item so I had no choice but to return it and am now awaiting a FiioM11 Plus.

What a fantastic write-up. The best reviews I've found are when the reviewer explains their 'road' to the product in review and renders or expands their needs from a product.
You commented elsewhere that you would perhaps purchase the DX320 incoming, I think you have found a rather more musical offering in the DX240 instead.
This is a very real portable player, one where you get about and enjoy the music and in the end if people are honest with themselves is what it's all about. Forget the snobbery and labels and cost like you have clearly demonstrated. You have audio wisdom.
