Great informative review as ever Brooko. On the lookout for replacement DAP as my trusted ipod classic 160 gig is waving the white flag re the battery. Would the SuperMini hold up build wise for an everyday player in your opinion?

Another great review, thanks! I'm looking forward to your impressions of the "Mega" too. They both seem to be very interesting to me, since I generally enjoy listening to my library on random, although I do like to look up songs periodically. I do have a couple of questions...

I'm assuming that the random (shuffle?) worked well enough through your folders i.e. nothing was left out?(since you recommended to use lots of them for easier access)

The minimalist UI doesn't bother me at all if everything id fairly intuitive & easy to access (which it sounds like it is), but how is the display? I struggle many times to read artist/song info without reaching for my glasses. How does the font compare to say the Fiio X1 (which I bought for my wife)...comparable, a little bigger? I'm hoping the lack of album art (no biggie to me) makes for a more legible display.

I'm sorry if I missed it, but I'm assuming the full size cans were all run single ended...no balanced adapters were used?

Thanks again...very informative (as usual!)

Great review Paul!  Would like to confirm that indeed Super is better for full size cans and lower sensitivity IEMs/CIEMs.  The hissing level was overwhelming with Andromeda, Zeus-R, and ES60 and using impedance adapter changes tonal characteristics too much.  Also, I was equally impressed with included iems, their performance is very close to RE600.

Thanks gents.  Voxie - the build is fantastic, and you'd have no issues using it everyday IMO. The caveat would be the lack of features - as long as that doesn't bother you - you'd be fine.

Jinxy - shuffle works on the tagged library - so it appears to work fine so far (you just use the "all songs" setting).  For album browsing I just use folders. And the text is much easier to read than the X1.  Quality of the screen plus the minimalist layout I think. And yes I ran my cans single ended.  I need to grab some adaptors at some stage.

Alex thanks - yes the hiss on Andro was definitely there, and I'd assume other very sensitive monitors would be the same. Emma didn't have an issue once music was playing - although i'd imagine with music like classical (which she doesn't listen to) that there could be issues.

Paul, excellent review! This player sounds perfect for travel and if the included IEM's are as good as the RE-600 then I'm totally in.

No line or digital out? Really!

Very informative review and the Supermini appears to be a very competent DAP. But NO gapless support on a DAP in 2016?!? Come on HiFiMan can you please add this feature in a firmware update.

Completely offtopic regarding this review, but as I read you like classical and folk, rock etc (me too) I thought you would be interested in a nice cheap IEM. Quite flat, with a slight upper mids/treble bump, detailed mids and a very tight bass response. Tight? I mean neutral. Very detailed also and excellent for operas, but also rock, country and well everything I throw at it. It is named the Vivo XE800 and can be had at below $18 shipped.

Gents - thanks for the comments.
@Darren Cotter - considering it's power, and the fact that its sized for being an ultra portable - then I can see why they avoided including line or digital out.  What use would they have? With the lack of library features - it's not really viable as a transport.
@smial1966 - yep, that is one thing I do miss.  Floyd isn't the same without gapless sadly.
@Ruben123 - thanks.  One I'll look out for.
@getclikinagas - great spotting - and corrected :)

@Brooko solid review m8!  Just heads up, measured the output impedance a lil while back - it is approx 1.75 for the Supermini and closer to 1 for the Megamini (not exact, just off the top of my head).

Thanks - might explain the hissing with the Andromeda.  MegaMini review should be up within 24 hours hopefully :)
