I saw the SZ2k mentioned in a comparison and was sure it was about to get trashed. Kudos to you for identifying their unique purpose. I loved these when I heard them. The possibility of me grabbing these for all around long sessions just went up thanks to your review. In Japan they are more expensive but you gotta pay to play and you and Oregonian are 2 part/full time bassheads who regard these highly.

HBB! Bro, all I know is be real to how it sounds to me so if you can get this for a good price, you got to snipe them. I got mine at a steal of a price and there wasn't any looking back. I can't trash them for going about bass in the different planar way and especially not for amazing me as much as they did. 
 
And obviously, they're not going for high ranks in the paper test .

DreamKing, just curious, have you ever heard the lcd2's? if so, how would you compare them. I looking at those two for my next set of cans. great review by the way.

I'm sorry raybone, I briefly heard the lcd2.2 a while back I liked it but I can't say which is better nor compare them. From what I know though- and this is off the top of my head- the lcd-2 has more bass presence vs the rest of the sound, recessed treble, soundstage is noticeably smaller, it's not airy like the HE-560 and more thick, the mids are lush, with a full-body. But this is mainly from a lot of reading of people comparing them since what I briefly heard in the 2.2 is now blurry and the lcd-2F is the current version anyway which improved on the treble as well as other things.
 
Nothing beats a demo where you could compare them both though, so if there's a store nearby that could do that for you it would be great to take advantage of that.

in Louisiana all we have is best buy and unfortunately all they have is bose and beats which is mehh. I may have to purchase through amazon since they have a good return policy. I own the he-400 & he-500 and they both are really great headphones. I have the violectric hpa v200 coming soon and will be considering one of these two cans. thanks for your input, cheers
