I don't think I would buy another Hiby DAP after owning the R6 Pro & it having only one Android security update isince new & that was 18 months ago.

Perfect review, enjoying my R6 III. Never believed I would become a DAP person before this. Cheers 😊

As a former Hiby owner, I wish most of their mid to higher daps didnt all look like twins

Thank you for your in depth review! I just ordered mine and I am looking forward to putting it through the paces. I was just going to stick with my iPhone 13 Pro Max, but the lightning port is starting to get a bit dodgy (even with a little TLC from my local Geek Squad). I decided to give up on it as I already know where it’s headed. So I started my search. I narrowed it down to the Hiby R6 III, the Ibasso DX 170 the Fiio M11s and M11 plus. It seems that the Hiby outpaces all of those other DAPs from what I’ve read and watched. So here goes nothing!
Anyway, thanks again.
Peace

I have never owned a Hiby. I have a usage question. The headphone jack is on one side, and the volume knob is on the other, does that make transport-ability of this dap a problem?

If you need to do in pocket volume adjustments, It's easy enough to adjust volume with the case on but it does take some fiddling around initially. I run my volume a little lower when I'm on the move so I don't have to mess with volume in general.

So I’ve run into an issue. And I know it’s my fault, but I am wondering maybe why it’s happening and if there is a fix other than “stop doing that!”
I have an Ifi hip dac2, which for more treble heavy IEMs like the Moondrop Stellaris and the Yume Ultra, really helps to tame that end of the frequency spectrum. The only way to run it is the chain is by way of the usbc port on the Hiby to the recessed male usb a port on the hipdac2. When the sample rate goes above 16/44.1 things begin to cut out and I get all sorts of static pops. It’s obviously un-listenable. I’m not sure why this is happening or if it can be fixed. And the Hiby sounds great when I just wire my IEMs directly to it. I just like the warmth of my hip dac2 for those specific iems the Ifi is rated up to at least 24/192 which matches the Hiby in specs. It’s a little strange. 16/44.1 works fine though, so it could be worse. This is all streaming btw, if that makes a difference.

Maybe check in the settings on the R6 III for a software update if you haven’t already. I remember some weird initial bugs they kinda worked out over time. Otherwise, check for firmware update on the IFi website and then maybe try a different recessed usb if you can find one.

I figured out a work around, at least for when I have the hip dac2 in the chain. The HiBy music apparently runs but perfect, whereas I’m not sure Poweramp does. And I guess the native ecosystem of Android 12 does some funky stuff as well. So when I linked Qobuz to the Hiby music app, the issue disappeared. It still has EQ and PEQ that I can mess with, just not the headphone/iem presets that poweramp has, which were cool. Anyway there’s my solution. If I’m just using a straight wired connection, I’ll use poweramp. If I’m adding the hipdac2, I’ll use HiByMusic it’s onboard and free anyway.
Half of the fun is trying to figure this stuff out, isn’t it?

Yeah, poweramp doesn’t seem to run at the native output even when you tell it to. That’s both on our Shanling and Hiby DAPs.
