Thank you for your great review. Interesting to read comments versus HD700 as they are currently my main headphones and I really love them out of GO1000.

I really appreciate your review of the GS1000e. I was particularly interested in your comparison of them to the PS1000e, since I have a PS1000 arriving momentarily (in today's mail!)

You didn't mention the evolution of sound during the first 30 hours that the other review here mentioned. Did you not observe that, or were they already broken in when you got them?

Anyway, they ARE my next headphones. Gotta sell some of what I have now to get there.

Yes, please do elaborate on the evolution of the sound over time.

I’m still very much in LOVE with my GS1000e’s. I can’t bring myself to part with them. The break in period was a little longer than with other headphones I’ve auditioned. It took time for my brain to fully appreciate what they offer. Listening to the GSe’s is more of a cerebral vs visceral experience. They didn’t knock it out of the park right away for me. Part of this is due to the break in period but mostly due to the fact they required me to be a more active listener to fully appreciate. Most other headphones I’ve listened to have one or more notable deficiency that didn’t sit right with me. The GSe shines because of the lack of major faults. Of course they are not perfect but the limitations are acceptable to me given the whole picture. For example I would rather have a slightly reassessed midrange and greater soundstage that gives me a real feeling and emotion to music. Neil Young’s solo albums for example, you can hear/feel the distortion in his guitar (even more so than my PS1000’s.). Sounds like the guitar is on fire!

I returned a pair due to a very bad lack of bass. If it come alive over time I will give them a 2nd chance. Out of the box I was really kind of angry at JG over the sound. We're talking about a cool grand here.

Hard to be that patient, why not pre-burn in, unless it really is just psychological.

Is your evaluation of the
Viso HP50
B&W P-5
HD650
Oppo PM-1
Fostex TH600
HD800
HD700
based on using it with your portable setup?  Reason I ask is I was looking at the GS1000e for home use with my Bifrost/Lyr2 and possibly a WA7d or project Ember.  I currently have two grado's: SR-225e and RS2e (is GS1000e a big upgrade to RS2e?), also have HD-700 and HD-650 of the headphones you evaluated so I have pretty good idea what you are talking about with these two cans.
