As always, nice review Asr. The look of that little amp really makes my inner geek grin. Will there be anything else coming out of Garage1217 in the near future?

^ There was an announcement of a solid-state amp on their Web site recently.

Thanks for the review Asr!
Seems like a very attractive amp by your description, I wish I could share some of my tubes and compare my amp with your experience with the Ember... are you planning on owning one, or trying another of Garage1217's amps?

Wow, this amp looks absolutely stunning! Is there a D.I.Y. kit available? Perhaps I'll pick up one of these as my first, rather cute, tube amp. :3
Have you had the chance to compare this to something like the Bottlehead amps, which are also available in a D.I.Y. kit?

I have their Project sunrise II amp driving HiFiman He500 with great results. the customer service has been as good as it gets. They have great products and offer wonderful service to their customers with value pricing.

I have had my Ember for a few months now and have it narrowed down to 3 tubes, the stock tube, a Tungsram E80CC and my favorite a Westinghouse black plate 12au7.  I listen with Senn HD650;s and find the to be excellent on the Ember.  I spend at least two to three hours a nite with this setup and never tire of it.  Nice review.

Nice review, always found the 12V tubes to be quieter with the Garage amps, but the 6V types to sound a touch more detailed. With an Amperex orange label 12AT7 I got the best sound out of the Sunrise 2. It was good enough to pick out subtle differences between DACs.

Evshrug: I really wanted to buy the review unit but had to decide against it due to personal circumstances. Definitely interested in their upcoming solid-state amp too.
miceblue: I've never had a Bottlehead amp before, not really interested in their kit amps either as I'm not a DIY-er (which I mentioned in the review).

Btw, as a general note to everyone, please post any questions in the forums (instead of as comments on this review) in this thread: http://www.head-fi.org/t/675850/project-ember-review. The format of the commenting system makes it harder to answer questions (and I won't continue to monitor comments here much longer either, only for about a week or so).

Oh my god. The Ember came with a hard case? That could be a brilliant amp if they include a big case when buying an amp like this. My interest is so high now.

^ The carrying case is not included with regular Project Ember orders and is sold separately on their Web site.

Fantastic helpful review-thanks.
What other amp could you recommend which is cheaper or similar priced with a better sound?

Just updated this review to cover some new tubes (listed towards the bottom of the Individual Tube Assessments section). Also has a new photo of the Ember v2 w/ an aluminum top plate and 6SN7!

'Of course there are better-sounding amps available, most of which cost a lot more'
I would be interested to know what other amps even approach the Ember's sound quality and versatility at this price.
