Have you considered tracking down one of those crown DAC chips for the Orchid? I've been interested in that DAC for a while but would only pick one up if I could secure a chip upgrade. Unofrtunately they're very hard to come by and expensive. I wonder what a tube dac combo would sound like with tube-pre's or a unit like the Billie 11 with a Tube buffer built in!

Edit: Unfortunately, their website is jacked up right now and I can't view the DAC pages for info/pricing. The Cherubim looks insane with those tubes as well! There's hardly any info out there.

Hi, i have not tried any other chip than stock in Orchid. Frankly i do not think i am able to get the real genuine upgrade chip. The stock chip is fine for me, i'd rather try other dac than look for any upgrades in orchid personally.

Nice review, I'm also a happy owner of the MHDT Orchid for quite a few years now, never been able to find something more satisfying. If you don't mind, are you going to keep the Orchid or the Davio?

I think the price starts from eur 1200. I will keep Orchid as i need more than one dac for my systems (speakers and hp's). As for chip i think it is Phillips, but beter to contact producer directly for more details.

Their "cooler" looking model starts at 5000 Polish currency which is about 1365 USD. This reviewed unit is a step-up in their offerings so who knows. (Also now that I've done this conversion where's the damn dealers in NA )

Any idea what the Davios retails for in US Dollars? The TDA 1541 chip can sound quite good depending on how it is implemented. My old Naim CDi - with the TDA 1541 chip - from 1993 still sounds fantastic even though its technology is over thirty years old.

It starts from eur 1200 so this will be app. usd 1100 but I guess there may be some taxes ect, so better to contact the producer.

Finding a dealer is the hard part, thay polish website and the one polish "dealer" that populates doesn't like outside browsers

I do not think they have formal US dealers, but the English website seems to be working. The owner speaks English as far as i know.
