Well, if you still find the pads uncomfortable, feel free to give me your X00. :D

Seriously though, great review!

I doubt it will be better than the TH-900 or even the TH-600 (which has actually been discontinued for your information)... but still a great review and a great headphone worthy of $399 any day of the year!

I've heard some opinions that it is at least equal to, or better than, the TH600. I personally dislike the TH600, but this one seems to sound more up my alley.

Great review as always!

Could you comment on the mid a bit more? You said that 'not buried quite so deep", does that mean that it's still standing out less than either of the spectrum: aka v-shape?

I have a feeling 2016 is going to continue the surrealist moment I have now?

"initial run may sell out quickly"   - So they are going to make more after the 2,000 units if they sell out?

sodesuka - I think these are relatively flat/neutral in terms of mids, with a boost on the low end. Mids are creamy, rich, present, but not super forward. So, not buried, not sticking out either, just neutral. I don't have a single letter that summarized the frequency response though....

jamor - I don't have any hard facts about the numbers they will produce, but I can only assume it will be like the K7XX and we'll get future runs. It just makes sense. Fostex clearly has the facilities to produce more, especially if the TH-600 is truly discontinued (I didn't know that until now). I can't imagine TH-600 sales were amazing so perhaps they will make up in volume what they lose in margin on each unit sold. Again, all speculation from me.

Can you compare to any of the Audeze lineup? I have heard them all and own the LCD2.2 and love them for the body/weight/authority that they uniquely provide in their signature. If the TH-X00 is in that catagory/quality that it can spar with the TOTL HP Audeze family (2 and up), I'm in.
 - Could it replace my LCD2.2 and be more comfortable?
 - Does it scale like a TOTL or is it stuck in the middle weight range?

I would definitely recommend giving the Lawton pads a shot - they're basically the same as the JMoneys.  The stock TH-X00 pads look identical to the old pads from my D-2000s (just pulled them out to check), and comparatively, the Lawton pads are thicker and have a much larger space for your ear.  I used to get a lot of pain after wearing the D2K for more than an hour or two since the tips of my ears touched the driver screens, but the Lawton pads are comfy enough that I can and have worn them all day.
