Thanks for the great review! I am wondering if these earphones are source sensitive. Did you happen to try them on anything else other than the 5s or your laptop?

Yes, it's always possible that the phones are source-sensitive. The iPhone 5S and my laptop (a fully-specced early-2014 Macbook Pro) are pretty neutral in their presentation from what I can tell. I suspect that these phones will pair better with bright sources.
Unfortunately I don't have access to any decent sources apart from the ones mentioned. Also, my best amp was stolen last year and I'm left with a couple of cheap and rather dark Fiios which certainly wouldn't help tame the bass.
