You guys are making it hard for me to post my review, yours are all outstanding. Kudos for a fair and to the point review now I'll have to say well someone mentioned it in their review earlier.

You compared the other DAP I was interested in trying, the AK100 mk2. Now I'm sure that is a player that FiiO had their sights on. Nice to see that you feel they succeeded.

I actually wanted a DX50 but after hearing the story of the screens, firmware updates, sound sig changing, etc. I decided to steer clear...
 
Thanks. Hahaha that will probably tend to happen but when the time for your review comes, DON'T re-read the reviews already in the system. If you repeat a piece of information, I don't see it as bad. Actually that means that most of us are seeing/experiencing the same thing! So it's all good!
 
Yes goodvibes. I DO think that the X5 is a step up over the AK100 mk2. Is it a HUGE gap there? No, not really and in fact I will keep using my AK100 mk2 in the meantime (i.e. good battery life, my library is updated correctly, good sound reproduction, even though a bit soft I like it, etc.) But I'm pretty sure that the X5 will be a future buy, of course I will have to test the library update thingie!

Good to hear, some one else put the X5 on par with the hm802 (or close to it) nice to hear though it is getting a lot of positive feed back! My hm801 might be in trouble

Thorough review. Only 3.5* though? You like the build, UI, sound quality. It is great value. Surely for that it's a 5* player. High grade circuitry always flattens big batteries and no 100h plus player is ever going to sound as good as this.

@Sefelt103 My biggest concern/complaint is with the Media Library though, that's a Full star off right there. As I mentioned, there are users that live by the "Browse by Folder" feature and calls it a day. Me, I live by the "Play All Songs" feature and that requires the player to properly read all tags and create the library. Since there are still problems there, I couldn't give it 5 right off the bat. I also have the X3 and it faces the same Media Library problem but FiiO seems to be working on it and will release a firmware for BOTH players to remedy that situation. Since that feature is IMPORTANT (to ME), the rating got affected. The other "half-star" off is due to the combination of battery life, scroll wheel sensitivity/inconsistency, a bit jerky animation in the main menu and no internal memory ala AK100 MK2. Like boxing referee Joe Cortes would say: "I'm fair but firm..." I think I was fair and the whole star rating shouldn't be the main drive though. I'm pretty sure that once all kinks are fixed, rating can jump back up (i.e. at least a 4.5* ). Thanks for reading.
 
@Brooko Thanks! I don't think it approaches the epic-ness of your review () but agree, I think FiiO is going to release a wonderful player and best of all AT AN APPROACHABLE price! Boy oh boy, some other companies are going to have problems!
