Yes I am using a balanced cable with the Sundara and running from an Android tablet.
No issues whatsoever.
I am listening to low recorded classical music and I never reached for max volume.
And what I like the most is that they don't only get loud but the KA3 is doing a great job in controlling the drivers.
Pretty amazing for a USB powered dongle.
I guess that you have hit the iPhone power limit.

I have trouble powering the Hifiman Sundaras with the KA3. This is 3.5 output via iPhone 12. At about 95% volume I am almost as loud as I usually need. However, sometimes I feel like I need a little more. When I approach 100% volume there is a crack sound, the song quits and I have to restart my app or unplug the dac to continue listening. This may be a power draw issue with the iPhone.
That said, I have zero problems driving my BeyerDT1990Pros (250 ohm) on 3.5. My Fiio FD5s sound great balanced or unbalanced and its almost too loud above 50%.
