I believe that given the open back design of the FH9, the soundstage is more spacious on it than FD7. However, which one among them produces sharper imaging, with more well-defined and full bodied notes? Also, which one sounds more clean and transparent?

@Ace Bee
Both earphones sound clean, clear and well defined while they perform imaging of the same quality BUT on the FH9 the bass line (when present) is masking some of the detail and the imaging takes a hit.
The listener is distracted by the accentuated bass and loses concentration on the imaging.
Another thing is that because the bass in the FD7 is more linear and better defined the result is that it sounds as a whole more clean than the FH9.
On timbre now, both sound full but the FD7 is more mellow and rounded.

Spaciousness - FH9 VS FD7 VS FD5..?

So this huge 13.6mm driver is only for bass? Hm. I love that they are continuing with the use of their semi-open vents, enabling such incredible soundstage and breathability like FD5 has!

Yes the driver is for bass only although I don't know the exact cut off frequency.
Spaciousness goes like FH9>=FH5s>FD7>=FD5.

Thanks for the detailed.review.
I have the FH3 and thinking to make the jump.to a higher end Fiio IEM.
I really enjoy the FH3
I believe it is a very accomplished earphone reaching high above its price range. Would you consider the FH9 a substantial step up sound wise?

Thank you very much.
The FH9 is a huge leap in technicalities and performance and tuning is not that far away.
With the FH9 you get more sub - bass and a bass "dominant" sound signature with excellent clarity in the mids and the treble.
Sound is way more refined and quality with far extended and spacious soundstage.

That's great.
I might give them a try then.
But trying to save some money here: How about the FD5 in comparison to FH9? I saw that you've reviewed those too so you know first hand.

Well you can read both reviews and make up your mind!

Anyway the FD5 has great bass and some nice single DD coherency.
Mids are more mellow and engaging but treble is a little more hot.
It has great soundstage but it is not as open and huge as the FH9.
Different flavor and a very good iem for the price with a fun mildly V shaped tuning.

Good review.
I take as likely it can be very close sounding to Fh7, as someone already pointed out, with same weaknesses and alike strenghts,
hence may not be a worth upgrade for Fh7 owners like me.
