Good review, but... If it "doesn't need to be returned" it's not a "long term loan."

Thank you.
It is a long term loan because I can keep it but it is under FiiO ownership.
So I can't sold it or make it a present for a friend.
Many people maybe think that we reviewers profit from the hobby.
No , I have paid for the custom import taxes and now after the review I am stashing this with dozen other iems.
I am probably not going to use it again because I don't have the time and it is useful only for future comparisons.
So yes it is a long term loan.

@Ichos I'm surprised you didn't get any peaks in the upper mids & treble region... I found peaks in quite a few cases...
which DAC/AMP/DAP worked best for you?
Ichos

@asifur
I found peaks at the brilliance range about 8kHz which isn't very annoying.
Nothing else really bothered me and to tell you the truth I found the FD5 more picky at the treble.
Neutral and relaxed dap/dac are better and preferred them from more forward stuff like for example Ztella or M3 Pro to name a few.

@Ichos
Very Interesting!
While yours & my pairings are very different... apart from the warmer DAC/AMPs like iFi ones...
and used quite a few after market cables of different mixes and elements ... in all of those cases I've found treble peaking quite annoyingly specially on the below tracks (and quite a few others as well):

California - Joni Mitchell
Rickover's Dream - Michael Hedges

My FD5 experience seems also a bit different than yours - I suppose that might be because I had used the narrow nozzle throughout with Spinfit CP800 tips.

Anyways, it's great to hear that you enjoyed! That's what matters most in the end...

I am going to test the tracks and report back.
I have used only the supplied cable and FD5 with the wide nozzle.
As always everything is quite subjective because we all hear differently.
In any case I am treble sensitive and I don't like bright headphones.
This is one for me is not bright , forward yes but harsh or bright no.
Of course as I have already mentioned in the review it doesn't do favors so it is not going to mask brightness or hardness if it is in the track.

200 hours burn in? I understand a couple of hours but 200 hours have no merit from engineering point of view unless is supported by evidence. Did you spend time listening before burn in?

@Another Audiophile
Hello , I am not an engineer and I have followed the manufacturers instructions.
I have listened out of the box , a little during and after the burn in.
As I have already wrote inside the review the differences where unquestionably there.
But I don't know if they happened for example at the 100 time or later or when.
Kindly note that I am not going to engage in a "burn in" and measurements discussion.
Thanks

@Ichos agree. No point to have this kind of discussion. I just received mine and I have also the FH5. Are too bright and harsh and that’s why I will return them. Thanks to Amazon.

@Another Audiophile
Yes I agree that compared to the FH5 (I have reviewed them a long time ago) they do sound bright.
The FH5 is more laid back , warm and colored in a beautiful way..
Not everything is for everybody and that is why we have now hundreds of options to choose.

@Ichos I have both in hand and that’s what I hear. The FH5s is a brighter iem. Not but just not my taste. I will leave them without using them to burn in for 3 days using the burn in track by 2xhd. Just out of curiosity to see if anything will change

Returned for a full refund.

If you are happy then that is good!

Actually I am not alone here.
I was watching Currawong video review and he seems to find the FH5s a very good earphone and much better than the FH5 .

I didn’t return it because is bad. I returned it because is not what I want or what Currawong described it to be like. It’s not a better version of the FH5. Is a different iem all together. I wouldn’t call it better but different
