Just ordered one of these based on this review and the dedicated E12A thread. Was considering the C5, but find this more aesthetically pleasing, like the idea of the tighter bass, and the fact that it's designed for lower powered phones (I'm all IEM plus HD598). Can't wait to get this in my rig.

excellent ....... amazing....

hello, just asking if e12a will suitable with ipod touch 4th gen? note that ipod touch sounds a little dry thank

@riodgarp : sure, but it works better paired up from LO of the DAP.  If you want more sound improvement from HO of your iPod touch, better go for Cayin C5 amp.

@twister6 yes I already use LOD from my ipod into d-zero, for some reason its make my cans (vocal and middle range) sounds metallic. I think I consider to change my portable amp my not suitable setup are : ipod touch 4th via LOD with ibasso d-zero connect to baldoor e100

I love this amp, I use it with the X3 and my Westone W40's when I'm on the go. If I'm home but not in the room with my main system I use the X3 & E12A combo with the B&W P7's and it sounds wonderful. I still very much enjoy the E12, but now I only use that with my planar magnetic can's. The E12A has more detail, no noise and bigger soundstage than the (still great) E12. FiiO hit this one out of the park and at a very resonable price.

Amazing review! Am questioning about this E12A paring with my X1 (eventualy X3 II) if it will be a good amp for driving my W4r IEM ?

@Skullbox :  It will pair up with X3 II better   X1 is just warmer/darker, and W4R (I have W40 and UM Pro 50) by nature of Westone will be smooth to begin with.  You want something more transparent and with great retrieval of details to drive it, and E12A is it!  I still have X3 II in my review test/cue, will be getting to it in the next few days, but I have a feeling X3 II w/E12A can come close to X5 performance, and thus can make one killer combo.  You will not regret getting E12A to drive W4r.

Have just ordered couple weeks ago E11k w/ L16 cable. I think canceled this order. I will only pick the L16 cable, and wait for the release of the X3 II next mount or so! ..

Strangely, the cayen C5 look familier to the E18. Am right ? Both are too big for th X3II, I think!

I figure it can drive my W4r without problem, but the real thing I will means is an amp that can be in a good synergy with my phone.

... like the P-51 or The Predator can do beautifully ...

E12A + X3 + W40 = Sonic bliss.

"Why would you want to add another amp? What headphones are you driving?"

This is the question from Brooko ask me...

... unless you're driving a headphone or IEM that actually needs it, my own testing (volume matched and blind tested) would disagree. I haven't had the chance to test with the E12A - just simply the amps I have access to.

I dont have access to X3K w/ E12A to test myself. So, Is Brooko opinion's are more valuable than yours ?

Hakus... have tested this combo! He report...

"Tested Gen. 2 with and without E12A and found very slight improvement with amping, but only minimal (with IEMs and HD598, which are pretty easy to drive, and bass boost off). To me the difference is so small for most portable set-ups that the pocketability of the X3 Gen. 2 by itself outweighs any gain to be had through amping with the E12A. Am sure that goes out the window with more power hungry phones, but don't have any yet to test that out on."

"Caveat to the above is that if you're a bass-head, the E12A with bass boost on does make a difference in the low end."

So I ended up thinking that I have to trust my own ears/brain!

What can I add to my stack to increase the bass???
twister6

@cnumb3033 : are you asking this question because you're considering E12A and its "bass boost" option?  If that is high on your priority list, go with Cayin C5 amp.  Its bass boost has wider bandwidth covering sub-/mid-bass, adding heftier weight/warmth to a sound.  Other than that, you can use EQ in your source to boost around 60Hz and 120Hz, play around to see what works.

FiiO E12A Mont Blanc IEM Special Edition vs audioquest dragonfly?
twister6
twister6
@alexandernigth : apples and oranges :)  one is an amp only to take analog signal and to shape/amplify it while the other one takes a digital signal from your laptop for external D/A conversion.  Also, a different sound signature.  These two don't really compete.  You would use E12A for Line Out of your DAP while use DF to bring out clean audio from your laptop.
