Short and to the Point! Thanks Brooko....do you know if it's possible to just choose any one of the amp modules with

the initial purchase of the X7? I think I'd be happy with the Amp2 overall....

You'd have to check that with Fiio - but I haven't heard them offer anything like that so far. I guess the good thing is that at least they're offering the modules at a reasonable price.

I love these reviews that contain a lot of useful information for each product, @Brooko .

It seems Fiio really nailed it with X7 and it's modules. Now, I simply can't wait to see what they got in store for X5. Maybe a third generation?

Thank you for taking your time to review so much in depth.

Thanks team - the one I'm kind of curious on now is the balanced module.  I've finally managed to procure a balanced IEM cable, and will probably grab an HD600 cable and convert it at some stage as well. The great thing is that the X7 (to me anyway) is really becoming a very mature and fully featured DAP.

Brooko, would you recommend the AM5 over the AM2 for IEMs too?
Brooko
Brooko
Not really - it cuts battery life too much, and the extra power is really wasted (not needed).  Personally for IEMs only, I'd stick with AM1 or AM2

Thanks Brooko, another great review.  I had a quick listen at the shop between AM2 and AM5.  I also found that the AM5 is more dynamic, thus more enjoyable with my Etymotic ER4S, and that is the one I eventually picked.  Surprisingly, the advertised power did not make much difference, at least to my ears.  In some quieter part of music I was listening to, I had to use high gain and 100-105/120.  And that pretty much the same with AM2 or AM5.  So for those potential buyers out there, the real choice is not about the power, but the preference of tonality.  Victor

Thanks.  A lot will depend on the load you are driving.  You won't see a lot of difference in power output between AM2, AM5 and AM3 with loads each can easily drive.  But with higher impedance, and harder to drive loads, the AM5 and AM3 will start to show their strengths.

Just finished my time with the AM5 also...my impressions are virtually the same....the AM2 is just as good, more relaxed...maybe more mature...
The AM5 is definitely more dynamic with slightly more separation...i think they are different enough to have both in your kit!

Hi Broko, i just got am5 amp for my x7, i am using it with beyerdynamic dt 990 pro 250ohm, sound is superb, but some of flac files are to silent, its also because i am using eq (V-shape), but the question is ... is the k5 dock better than am5 module in sound quality direction? Or just in volume amount? Thanks
Brooko
Brooko
The K5 has 5 times the output power of the AM5 into a 300 ohm load - so to drive the 990 (if you are finding it too low volume), then you need to look at a more powerful amp.  if you are using EQ, it will drop the volume level further

Thanks Brooko, what do you think about sound quality of these two amps, am5 vs. k5, which one sounds better? Thank You

I just received my A5. The first screw was in very tight but it came out of the Am2. However, the second screw just would not move and I am afraid the socket for the screw driver is stripped. Anyone have any ideas for solutions other than taking it to a machine shop? Luckily if it ever comes out the AM5 came with 4 spare screws. I am also thinking of just returning the AM5 and living with the AM2.
