Thank you.
The best results where with Denafrips r2r Pontus and Venus.
I know that they are expensive but I have the feeling that similar results may apply with DAC like Bifrost or even modi multibit.
It is built and assembled like a tank.
Full aluminium chassis , nicely finished and tightly screwed.
Gain switch is very good and clicks firmly.
Buttons are a little loose.
Pot is very smooth and with good feedback.
Use while listening to music is 100% noise free.
Now I have read - as you may do - that the pot is getting noise after a while.
Unfortunately it is too early for me to know.
I have been using it daily for a month and it is dead silent.
Being firmly on the subjectivist side of the hobby I can still appreciate what they are reaching for with this amp and I sometimes wonder if this wouldn't be a great amp for gaming or movie purposes. And for ascertaining differences in other parts of the signal chain, as was mentioned in the review.
I tried to breakin IEMs and cables with my SLP Phonitor E, but the volume setting always returned to 0. I had the 789 still boxed up from its purchase in March 2020. I added it to my breakin stack and it sounds very linear, but a touch dry. Works like a champ with IEM break in and sounds good enough for regular use with a decent DAC.
Yes , it is just a touch dry but still very enjoyable and not boring or plastic sounding like other pro staff.
Works wonders with iems.
An R2R dac or a decent not "digital" sounding one is the best match.
