The HP50's were on my short list, so were the Oppo PM3's @Jeff Y. Haven't heard either though. Uploaded some pics just now as I don't think there are many non-official photos of people wearing them on the net. Sorry for the mugshot in advance!

Hmm... I thought the cups would be very small as mentioned in the other review of the mm400 but I guess I was wrong. tnx for the photos btw.

No problems. Precisely why I put the photos up...I didn't think there were enough snaps around of people wearing them.

Thanks for sharing your impressions on these Romani. I'm considering a pair of these at the moment and for the time being I'd probably running them straight from my Z2 when out & about (amped at home though).

Can I ask how you found the MM400 direct from the Z2 and if you found it drove them sufficiently loud?

btw I'm with you on the Music Maniac branding. It just doesn't fit with the styling of these headphones at all.

Best,

I prefer these over the Momentum 2.0s, NAD Viso HP50s and the Focal Classics despite having had them onmy head for a mere 60 mins.

I agree with all Romani has posted up in his review - spot on.

I have so far listened to them through an iBasso DZero Mk II and either the Z1 Compact or my laptop, playing in both cases mainly flac files.

They are warm, but not overly, nicely detailed and, I like this description from Romani, so will use it too, "buttery smooth".

A seriously beautiful set of cans.

I have tested using a wide variety of music already: Fleetwood Mac (The Chain), Fat Freddy's Drop (Based on a True Story), Massive Attack (Splitting the Atom), Cameron De La Isla (Per Sabar Cameron), Jeff Buckley (Grace), Cassandra Wilson (New Moon Daughter) and The The (Mind Bomb.

Will test out with some rock, punk etc later and report back.

Nice job on the review and pics.  Very interested in these as I'm the owner of 4 other Denon's right now and am a fanboy if there ever was one for Denon!  Amazon is out of stock so I'm looking for another source to purchase.

@jellofund I found them sounding beautiful out of the Z2, probably even more detailed with more realistic bass relative to the X5. For being on the road, I think it should be sufficient but I wouldn't call them ear-destroyingly loud. I personally wouldn't have any issues using that as the source if I was to take them out.

Thanks @DanMuc. Glad my impressions are in line with what others would expect. Very hard to put the initial excitement aside in order to write something unbiased. Let us know how you go with the other genres. Enjoy!

@Oregonian if you refer to my list of previous headphones owned, I think it beats all of those let alone the Denons, hands down. I also made mention of who I bought them from in my review under the "Value" section. He seems to be able to source these without issues. He also got them out to me in 2 working days from Japan to Sydney, postage speeds I've never seen before.

@Romani  - thank you for the quick reply & great to hear the Z2 does a good job with them. I don't tend to listen at particularly loud volumes & from what I can gather the MM400 isolates pretty well so should be fine for my needs. Cheers & I hope you continue to enjoy them!

Thanks @jellofund. In that case, I think they will be right up your alley

Anyone know when these will be available in the USA without having to special order?
Thanks

Hi Romani. How would you compare these to the d2000, both soundwise and the wearing? I now have the d2000, but I'm considering getting the mm400
Romani
Romani
Hi @sjur

The D2000s have a wider soundstage, more forward mids and have bigger earcups and pads. Having said that, I also found them too grainy in the top end and their bass either too light or too loose relative to the MM400s. The fact their earpads were bigger and clamping force lighter meant i could not always get a perfect seal which meant bass was also hit and miss. I also did not like the fact the cables were non-removable as that was the component that kept failing on me. The amount of reverb in those cans also annoyed me as I felt it was done that way to create that wide soundstage, which also tended to result in average instrument separation. I personally find these MM400s superior and easier to drive too. It's a brave conclusion to draw given how highly regarded the D2000s are but that is honestly how I feel about these.

Hope that helps. If anyone else on here has owned those, I am happy to get their thoughts here.

Thanks, it helps a lot. I also have the b&w p5, which are practical and easy to drive, but I'm not quite happy with them sound wise. I really like the sound of the d2000, so after reading your comment, I'm pretty excited to try the mm400. Think I'll have to give it a go. They will be available here in Norway in about a week
Bit curious though, about the "easier to drive " comment. On paper, these should be harder to drive? This has concern me a bit, as I don't think the d2000 does it well with my iPhone.
Romani
Romani
@sjur Not a fan of the P5 at all in terms of sound signature. You will definitely be able to drive the MM400s out of your iPhone easily compared to the D2000. Looking forward to your impressions once you try them out.

Very interested and very good review.
I have to choose between this one and the HE400S, but from what I have read in this - and other - review, i'm feeling i finally have found my goal.
Anyway, are those a full range set of headpfhone?
Any lack at the extremes of the band?
Those could be my first attempt to seriously listen to hifi music on headphones, so i'm a bit afraid to not follow my hopes.
Soundstage seems to be pretty decent.
My only pair of cans are Denon Ahd1001.
I was amazed first time i listen to them.
Now it's time to move forward, i have to turn off my diy/audiophile/stereo/dipole/etc.
My 'only' concerns are about open/closed, but i prefer microdetails and dinamycs more than soundstage.

Do you think those are good all arounders?
I listen to every kind of music, except rap/hip hop.
Postrock, jazz, classical, electronic firstly.

I'm hooked
Romani
Romani
@iperv yes i do think these are amazing all rounders. I listen to all of the genres you mentioned and they do all of them well :) I can't comment on how they compare to the HE400S as I haven't heard those before.
