good review Ian, particularly pertinent in my case as I have an almost identical set up, the only difference being my ipod is an imod.
Which brings me to my question, this looks a serious piece of kit but would it be a major improvement on the imod playing lossless .
No problem with the cost, but there would have to be a major gain musically to increase the footprint as my set up fits neatly in my pocket presently but this would no be the case with the Solo added to the stack.
The sound from my set-up is exceptional, but hey, yours may be better and the purchase would need to be made.

Thanks so much my friend. I am afraid I can't answer your question as I have not heard the imod. I think Monotune mentions above that Ken said it is a considerable improvement over the imod. I think, seeing as this is so new it might be worth waiting a few more weeks to see reviews by folks who have the imod.
I must say, the more I listen the more I am impressed with the micro detail retrieval and yet at the same time it manages to sound inviting and not tiring at all to listen to, very analog sound I feel from my memories of my vinyl days!

Thanks Ian, got a tip for you though, whether you proceed is entirely up to you, if you can get you hands on them buy a set of Fostex T50RP orthos, after a simple mod you will be amazed, dirt cheap over there.
The detail and mids out perform the Denons, set on low gain at about 2.0 clock with the solo they will blow you away, a huge thread exists on head-fi.
The mod thread is massive, but all you need to do is place a piece of felt (glued over the drive), and pack the back of the cups with cotton wool.
A lot have put modelling clay or blue take all around the baffles, don,t do it though as a lot of detail will be lost, it is easy to get into them , just remove the pads.
Takes about half an hour to turn them into a mini miracle that competes with cans in the £1,000 price range, difficult to get though as they sell like hotcakes, they will compliment the Solo and Stepdance superbly, you will have to pinch yourself, this is so so close to a vinyl sound, this I know as my home set - up is for my vinyl collection, you will be smiling from ear to ear afterwards, listen to them stock first though, very average, after the mod you may need to be seated (shock factor) I have some good black felt left here if you like I could post to you.
