When pairing Aegis with a computer and with Dunu DN-2000J or Titan 1, is there noticeable hissing? How bad does it get? Since Aegis seems to be delivering quite a lot of power, this is one concern I'm having...

I did not notice any hiss, but I may not be the best to ask, as my tinnitus can mask it if it is low level. Perhaps also try asking in the Aegis thread - as there will be other owners of the Titan and 2000J there.  I know that Vince has a pair of DN2KJ.

Thanks. On Linux does Aegis work with PulseAudio? Or did you use a plain Alsa set-up?

PS For Linux I find QasMixer very helpful to deal with the sound levels of Astrapi/Aegis. It has an option 'Settings > Input > Number of turns for slider change' which when maxed, allows very fine grained increases in sound level. Helps to deal with sound getting too loud too quickly...

Excellent review Paul!  Still going through reviews in my queue to get to Aegis, but my impressions are spot on aligned with yours, especially your closing thought in recommendation paragraph.  Aegis has very high potentials, just needs to get a few key issues under control.

@twister6wouldn't a low/high gain switch help alleviate the volume control issues?

@landroni - I just use a straight Alsa set-up.  But if it's recognised at kernel level, then Pulse should have no issues with it either.

@twister6  - Alex, thanks.  looking forward to your thoughts also.

I'm amending the review, and changing the bit about EMI.  Whilst there was some noise with streaming, I now suspect that it may be just errant noise through the net connection rather than EMI.

Had a word to someone from Cozy as well - and one of the things they are working on is a lightning cable with volume control. This would be the perfect complement to the current Aegis if they can pull it off!
