Even the PX100 eclipses these pieces of audio junk...
These retail for prizes that make you vomit if you have any sense of quality and finish.

Yeah. Still, I'm glad that I've put them to good use instead of just tossing them to the corner.

Deep funk...I'm willing to bet money you haven't even heard them outside of a demo.
AE2 is fairly well balanced, but seemed a bit congested when I heard it. Strangely enough the AE1 has too much treble but is much better than the AE2. AE1's mids are actually not too recessed, but fairly relaxed. I don't find either to have any lack of bass. I agree that neither are worth the retail price. Got a Bose AE1 (that I gave away) for $40 and it's not too bad for portable use.

For $150, I have to agree that almost anything else out there will beat the AE2 at its game. Almost every NC can on the market does something strange to highs, be it "skewing" the sound (as one Head-Fier put it) or simply making it unlistenable and harsh. I have nothing against flat-response headphones, but flat response doesn't mean no bass impact. There are plenty of flat headphones that render bass very well. With Bose, you lose both quantity and quality of the bass.
I'd buy an AE2 for $70, but the extra $80 is made out of pure marketing.

Let's say the AE2 or AE1 were $80. What else is out there that is as portable, small and as comfortable as the Triport? Anything? Honestly I felt the AE2 was more balanced sounding than the Creative Aurvana Live I had at the time. Even a little more clear sounding. Yes, really. I do think I'd probably take the DT-235 over the AE1. My KRKs are far better, but kind of bulky. My DJ100 requires an amp usually too. I always felt like the Bose headphones were $70 worth of sound. Not as bad as people say. It seems with smaller and more portable headphones you sacrifice some sound quality.

What's really sad is that I even prefer the original AE1 to the Sony ZX700(!). I guess the MDR-7506 is a nice portable, but not very comfortable. Guess I kind of answered my own question. Probably mentioned this but I think the AE1 is far better than the AE2. There's an old clone of Bose AE1 called the Maxell DHP-II that sounds better, but too bad they no longer make it. Same comfort and everything.
