I agree. These phones have a startling amount of clarity. You will hear things you haven't heard before and hear things you have heard before more easily. There is, to me, some brightness in the high end, but I will gladly keep that for the amazing clarity. And you can find these for less than $500 now.

I tried these and really liked them (with Auralic Taurus amp).   I was kind of surprised to read a significant number of posts that did not rate them very highly.   but I guess its to be expected that any piece of gear will have mixed reviews.   hardly any gear totally gets raves - btw,  if you know ones that have 100% raves let me know

How did you get LCD2-like bass out of them??? Bass response was their weak point imo

I compared the LCD 2 R2 directly with the T90's, the amp I use doesnt roll off the bass until you get below 10Hz...nothing missing in the bass dept at all. Both go down to 10 hz but the lcd2 is 5db higher....where the T90 is at 0db. Also make sure your listening to a song that has real bass.in it. Check out Brian Brombers 'Wood' cd...

The treble peak on these headphones really bothered me and the bass sounded a bit wooly for my preferences. It was almost like listening to nails on a chalkboard, but the winner for that one goes to the Ultrasone PRO900. XD

Treble review from steve hofffmans forum for T90"

"Now for the treble: simply the best I've heard. Clean and clear as glass. Just utterly clean. The treble detailing on these 'phones delivers great-sounding cymbals and tremendous air to the listener and an overall crispness to the sound. U2's Achtung Baby sounds more atmospheric than ever. I listen to these cans on the Bottlehead Crack with no mods. The T90's can very occasionally be slightly sibilant, but I haven't found it to be an issue for listening pleasure. It just depends on the recording. Even on sibilant recordings, it never caused any discomfort, you just notice a slight emphasis on the S's and T's without sharpness."

Always two sides of a coin...

I think this is the first headphone i've heard that let me FINALLY hear a single weakness in the Schiit Modi. So, it took a $400-$500 headphone to do this! Not bad considering the Modi is only $100. I could not do this with the HD-650 and Q701. When I tried this headphone it's as if you can hear flaws with your setup if it's not perfect. The Modi actually makes the T90 sound smoother and less resolving than it really is. That might be a good idea for some people. In terms of how revealing the T90 is of gear and recordings, I wonder how it compares to the T1 and HD-800 in this area. I'll never buy them, but am always curious. I didn't love the T90, but once I sent it back I really missed it. I wonder why it was discontinued?

Are you sure they're discontinued? It's still available on Beyer's website, Amazon, B&H, RazorDog and other places. They've also just released a Jubilee edition as well...
