I use the x1s GT for 2 weeks now and i have never expirienced that PLL Lock Issue. using filter 4 and conneted via usb. seems like they fixed it or the 1st batches just had this problem since i didn't upgrade the firmware.
as you said, a gainswitch would be very nice. but all in all i am very happy with it.

Great to hear that they have fixed the issue from the factory and comes with a new firmware installed because this is actually a good sounding DAC/amp.

"Single ended headphone output is rather underpowered" ? I have X1s amp/dac and able to drive 600 ohms. Weird.

320mW/32Ω compared to the 1200mW from the balanced output or when the FiiO K5 Pro can do 1250mW then yes it is rather underpowered.

But of course it may drive high Z headphones due to a larger voltage swing but still not optimal for headphones that demand more current.

Not necessarily, the Focal Clear Mg was sufficiently good from the single ended output but very special and superior from the balanced.

I dont know what you mean by sufficient good. I tried Focal Clear and even other 300 ohms & 600 ohms, goes beyond my comfort listening level at 3 o clock for Aune X1S. And if am correct, the GT is more powerful than X1S.

The X1S it is 560mW@32Ω and 200mW@300Ω....

Yea need to look at the specs.
