"The Carbon is technically semi-open, and as such, does not isolate much from your surroundings, making this certainly a home-based headphone."
Unless your home environment is also noisy which it is for many. Designing a really good sounding, comfortable headphone is a challenge, but designing a really good sounding, comfortable headphone that has excellent passive isolation is rarity. I've tried so, so many and none make the grade. Then again I have not tried all over ear closed headphones. ANC cans have mediocre sound quality. Etymotic E4XR's would have ended over ear cans for me if only I could use them with my very narrow ear canals. Hoping one day a headphone maker will figure out excellent passive outside noise isolation out and give us a suitable choice.

Good review. Honestly the only issue I have with the Carbons is the cable. It could be slightly longer for my taste, which is funny as I see the main complaint folks had with the original Nighthawk cables was they were too long. Guess there's no pleasing us.

Less than 20 days to get mine! It seems to be everything I want in a pair of headphones.

Hi guys, thanks for kind words! I just went over my review and realized that there are some factual errors. The NightOwl Carbon is completely closed (rather than semi-open), but still has poor isolation. There are other changes I'm going to make, I'll let you know when everything is done. I'm mostly making stylistic changes for clarity's sake.

Very good review! Love mine, have been enjoying them for over two weeks now. The only problem is I don't feel like listening to my PM-3, Meze 99 Classics or TH-X00... Found that the Owls are strangely similar to my Noble Savants in terms of detail, clarity and instrument separation but then there's that bass on top of it all :)

Great review.
I am listening to my NightHawks as I read.
I understand the isolation isnt fantastic with the owl, however how does it go with sound leakage?
Could be a work option :)

Not much leakage if you listen to sane levels. Using mine in the office evey day and don't get any complaints. Isolation is pretty good I have to say. Not PM-3 good, but not that far off either.

Nice review. The part you mentioned about the initial impressions is an excellent indicator as to the SQ imo. Headphones that WOW on first listen usually tend to be bad in th long run, and vice versa. A good indicator to weed out the useless hype reviews from quality ones like this. Nicely done.

Not sure what it is, but there is something strangely enticing about the AudioQuest headphones.

I must say that I am amazed at how the NO and NH open up after 100+ hours...approaching 150+ on the NO and 250+ on the NH now, and I am thoroughly impressed with both. Well done!
