Your measurement and review are literally the only place online and on Head Fi complaining about a “massive dip”. All other reviewers don’t find it.
That is why I suggested your unit might have had something wrong with it…no need to get defensive.
They all have it. Not sure why people think these have amazing highs, but they definitely have recessed highs if the highs frequency starts dropping below the mids at what...~2k hz? As always, I don't really care, but let's not pretend my Jewel was defective, because it wasn't.
It’s fine if you don’t care, but since you posted a review which happens to state facts completely different from everyone else, I think it’s fair to question your unit or measurings. None of the other readings have a “massive” dip. They are all around 5db at 4/5k. Yours shows a 12-15db dip in the same region. Don’t you think something’s up, especially when everyone else who tried them has lauded the tuning and never complained about the highs?
I know it’s a hobby, but publishing a “review” based on dubious readings is still something that gets read next to others. It is more than fair to question either your pair or your methods/listening habits wether you care or not.
I heard it last year at Canjam, one of the best IEMs I heard at the show. Definitely wasn't lacking in the treble when I demoed it. Is it $5000 good? No. But it is damn good.
Yes, my measurement rig can be a little goofy, feel free to buy me a new one since I get paid nothing to write reviews - I do it because I enjoyed it, and because I avoid bias and "audiophile" lingo so that anyone can understand what I'm talking about, not just the hardcore 1%. I've owned almost every single TOTL IEM in the last 4 months at massive personal cost because I was trying to create something unique (where I didn't give everything 5 stars just because it was expensive) - the Jewel didn't impress me. If it impressed you, great, buy a measurement rig, and go write a review. As always, everyone hears differently, and if you think that your opinion, or my opinion are the end-all, be all, you're wrong. But, I can most certainly provide people who aren't you with my opinion and maybe it helps lead them to a better IEM, of which there are many. Luckily for you, this was one of my last reviews because I'm tired of this crap and you won't have to hear from me again. Wolfhawk out.
Honestly, I missed reading such a negative review on one of the most popular IEMs on today's scene. I agree with almost nothing of what you wrote, but I appreciate the desire to go against the tide.
an honest and frank (though maybe subjective) assessment which i mostly agreed with. i tried several aroma iems and none left positive impression. they didn't exactly sound bad as you stated in your review; my problem with them is they're built to a standard and have such sound performance not commensurate with the price (even at the street price instead of listed price) they command. also purely subjectively, the aesthetic design left a lot to be desired for my taste (could be quite bad ) . . . .
While I follow your reviews and read all of what you write, but I don’t agree with all of what you have written about Jewel. It’s quite evident that you dislike the Jewel a lot. Some agenda?
I really have to say, that I liked some of your review before, I gave you a lot of credit here. But this one, hell no.. 64/100 - Sorry, but this absolutely nonsense!
I know in this hobby, it's all about taste. But you can't justify something like "poor instrument separation or no highs". The Aroma Jewel is absolutely capable of holding the candle to every "modern" IEM. I don't know, if you had a bad day or other reasons caused this review. I never met anyone, that wasn't impressed by this IEM. Not in the past and not today!
I don't write this comment to justify the Jewel or to put you down, but I wan't everybody out there, who haven't had the chance to listen to it, tell:
Don't give anything about this review, try it for yourself
BTW I didn't know, that Trifecta has great highs, maybe I really have to check my ears now...
I support you, 552609. You do not need to go with others' opinions when it comes to review. Everyone else won't complain about it but you have the courage to point out the negatives is big prop to you. Beside, you bought it with your own pocket money to review it, just believe on what you saw, don't listen to others.
Lol dude. Demoing a unit atm, after first 20 min I can safely say it certainly is endgame for many in this hobby. The technicalties are top notch and suprisingly great for an IEM, it easily compares in this regard with some TOTL headphone stuff. Its rather bright so it certaibnly not for everyone (and probably not for me) Only thing I can agree with you with - yes the design and cable feel cheap.
Kind of surprising review, while I really like Rn6 and will probably buy it, agree bass on the Rn6 is better in most ways, mids are the Rn6’s one step behind the Jewel and the Rn6 has more high presence but that can also make them a bit hot with certain recordings. I’d put them near equal.
With the Trifecta yikes that was a miss for myself, mids that are too recessed and definite bleed from the mid bass boost, highs were surprisingly present but not airy the way they are on the Rn6 or Jewel. But more pushed forward and sharp over light and airy. I guess if you’re a big Sony Z1R fan than the Trifecta is similar in some respects.
I personally like more W sound signatures or mild V over deep U or V signatures, along with different music. That’s where I think your view of the Jewel might differ from many others.
